Veronica will remain in the Recovery Room until cleared for adoption. She is scheduled for a dental on August 14th.
Meet Veronica, a beautiful 7-year-old Cocker Spaniel with a gorgeous roan/golden coat that gives her the charming appearance of a miniature Golden Retriever. Rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri, Veronica is a gentle, sweet soul who is currently learning what it means to be a beloved family pet. Because of her past, she has a very fearful and cautious disposition, making a quiet, predictable home environment essential for her continued decompression. She is already spayed, and during her procedure, she had an inguinal hernia repair which is now completely healed. While she relies on her crate as a comforting safety blanket and needs a patient family who will let her bloom at her own pace, she is already showing a wonderful capacity to connect. She absolutely will benefit from another dog companion who is calm that will show her the ropes of learning how to actually be a dog.
In her foster home, she has quickly learned to look for her human companion when out in the yard together, proving that a little time and a few high-value hot dog treats go a long way in earning her trust. Despite her initial shyness, Veronica has already achieved some incredible milestones that make her a fantastic housemate. She is completely housebroken, boasting a flawless record with zero indoor accidents. Additionally, she is an absolute dream around feline companions; she exhibits a calm, indifferent attitude toward resident cats, showing absolutely no desire to chase or vocalize at them. Veronica currently weighs 27 pounds and is on a high-quality diet to help her safely trim down to her ideal weight of 22 pounds to protect her joints. She doesn't know her name yet and is still navigating fear around new things like stairs and leashes, but with a compassionate adopter who will guide her with "treat and retreat" confidence-building games, Veronica will undoubtedly blossom into a loyal, cherished companion.
