Zeus is a sweet and friendly little guy with a passive personality. He loves a warm lap, and belly rubs more than ball and toy time. He does love his walks but could use some continued work on leash. He is overly excited at first, but once he gets going, he gains his stride. He likes to go for car rides and has been a good rider. He sleeps quietly while I work, likes to be part of the activity in the house, and is usually close by. He seems unaffected by loud noises. Firecrackers have not bothered him. Rabbits and squirrels get him excited. He has shown himself to be smart, a quick learner with ramps, stairs, dog door use. He has separation anxiety and will need to have a patient adopter who can help him through this, someone who is home a lot will be ideal. I would not trust him alone in a yard right now when not home, but he has been fine going in and out while his people are home. He has a lot of love to give and needs someone who can help him build his confidence when left alone. Zeus is house trained.
Separation Anxiety: Zeus is perfectly calm when we are around, but capable of climbing right over a baby gate that is wire cross hatch. We are scared to leave and let him have access to the doggie door because we are concerned that he might try to either dig under or climb up and over the chain link fence. He does not really like the crate; he can handle it for only a short time. Zeus has not been destructive but has got up on cabinets and short bookcases and knocked stuff off. He does have bad manners about trying to get up to food on TV trays and tables but once he is told "No" and we have him sit down, he stays down. He might jump to get your food off the kitchen table. He needs to learn that is a no-no! He needs some minor work on his manners around food.
Zeus would love a home with an active family, another dog his size, and a 6 ft wood fenced yard. He is waiting to make some lucky family his own.
Zuke's History: This is what we learned from Zeus's prior owner: Zeus is known to have a high hunting instinct and drive. He is also said to be a lover, a lap dog. He is very smart and would pick up on training fast. He will sit most of the time when asked. He sometimes digs holes at the fence. He is a really high jumper. He is full of energy and loves to play. Zeus is very loving an affectionate. Zeus is kennel trained. He loves being outside and to lay on his belly with his legs out behind him. His new foster says that Zeus overall is sweet but needy. Fairly trusting.
