Susie will remain in the Recovery Room until cleared for adopdtion. She will be having a dental the end of April. Her foster will most likely adopt her.
UPDATE: Sweet Susie has a precious, expressive face and her “wiggle butt” wags show everyone her beautiful spirit. She loves to be right near her foster Mom whatever happens. She is a loyal companion. She loves to give pup hugs! In a short period of time Susie has adjusted quite well to her new environment and foster family. She is well behaved inside her foster home. She doesn't climb on furniture, steal garbage or laundry, or get into cabinets or even the cat litter boxes. She doesn't beg when it's mealtime. She enjoys looking out the windows!
Susie is bright, alert, affectionate, and her foster Mom's shadow. Susie enjoys hearing her own voice as she barks when she hears something outside, a car door being locked, someone walking past, etc. Sometimes, she responds to hearing a soft command "quiet or down" she will settle down and come right beside her foster Mom. So, I believe her barking speaks to her serious commitment to do her job as protector. Susie responds well to praise and encouragement. She is a little skittish at sounds inside like hearing the kitchen cabinet door soft close. Other sounds, such as hearing musical instruments, do not seem to bother her. In fact, she likes to be where the action is!
Susie is taking walks on her leash 4-5 times a day because she loves using all her senses to explore her world. She knows the command, "get busy" to do her business outside. She is house trained, does not doesn't have access to a fenced yard or doggy door, so she is learning to walk on a leash. She enjoys her snuggly crate at bedtime. Susie is just beginning to show a little interest in toys, such as her tennis ball. Every now and then, she will go to the toy basket and pick out her ball or a stuffy to shake and chew on. Oh, car rides are Susie's forte! You can literally see her "smile" when she hears the words, "car ride"!
Susie is happy with all adults, however, is a bit more apprehensive around men. Given time, she will warm up to a gentle, outstretched hand. Susie has been around children over the age of ten. She enjoys being with them! She hasn't yet interacted with younger children. As Susie is meeting my friend and neighbor dogs of all sizes, she is curious and will initiate interactions. She enjoys running and romping with a neighbor's pup. They are becoming good walking and playing buddies! There is a deaf cat in Susie's foster home. The two of them are doing well being in one another's space at times. She approaches the kitty with caution, sniffs, watchful eyes, and patience. Over the last couple of days, Susie will gently sniff the cat and even give a quick kiss on her nose! She has not been aggressive toward the cat during her time here.
Susie's History: Meet this sweet little girl! Susie likes lots of attention and wants to be wherever her person is. She likes her crate with her pink blanket; she is fine in her open or shut crate. She likes riding in the car for short or road trips and loves the attention in hotels. Susie has little interest in toys & can be picky about dog treats. She likes to hear her own voice.
Susie was trained at the prison in Florance, CO. If she jumps her command is “Off”. For potty “Get Busy”. She is fully housebroken and has no separation anxiety. She doesn't take food off the counter or chew things or drink from the toilet. She likes her head and back massaged. She has been a bit of a bully with some dogs but does play with bigger dogs sometimes. She does better if I'm not there.
