UPDATAED BIO!

Reba is a prior puppy mill mamma that came to us with no training. Living in a home presents a few challenges for her. She is a very happy gal and loves cuddles, ear scratches, and getting her chest and belly rubbed. She is an anxious dog and this can be expressed with lots of energy, zoomies, panting, and gentle barking when I come home. She currently lives in a house with 2 seniors who enjoy naps and snacks. She calms down quickly after being fed and when I am sitting on the couch watching tv she looks for snuggles and lays with me for a few minutes then finds a comfy place and stays there. She is currently taking Prozac for her anxiety. She has been on it for 3 weeks and it seems to be helping. She is starting to calm down much quicker than before and is more observant and let me get up close to see what you’re doing. Reba is gentle but can be anxious. Her eagerness to be loved warms my heart and she is trying so gosh darn hard to be good.  She does o.k. around my dogs but can walk over them on her way to the water bowl or something she wants. She doesn’t have much special awareness. I have not pushed socialization with her because of her anxiety. It has been food, love, cuddles, and constant positive reinforcement that she is a good dog while in my home.

When I first got Reba, she would not approach strangers and run away. She will now slowly approach some and let them pet her! She approaches others and then runs away. But always trying. She is good with adults and would probably be good with older children but not toddlers. Reba runs zoomies around things when I first get home from work. She still needs leash training and house training. Reba is sweet, loves affection, is my shadow, and constant companion. She does get on my couch and bed with the help of the stairs. She sleeps well, no snoring and through the night. She understands when I say simple commands such as: No, let’s go outside (means we roam around my yard), who wants treats, and comes when I call her. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries. She eats with my other dogs but about 8 feet away. I watch and encourage her to eat her food. She takes a few bites, runs around and then comes back to her dish. This goes on for most of the meal. She can be hard to move but I think it’s because she doesn’t understand what is going on.  Oh, and she loves car rides, a lot!

Reba needs to be in a home where someone can give her one-on-one attention, with perhaps one other dog her size to help her learn more about being a house dog. Is there someone out there who would love to help Reba continue her journey to fully living a life of freedom outside of a mill?
