Poppy is cleared for adoption.
Poppy is one of the recent Cherokee Release dogs. Poppy is a sweet soul and cute as can be. She doesn’t seem to trust, has been very timid, scared of sounds, the doorway, leash and harness. She is early in her socialization journey and learning to trust. Her first month was mostly spent in her crate where she felt safe. She was very unsure and scared of most everything including the TV. After another foster dog arrived that is socialized, she has not been in her crate and sleeping in a dog bed. She is now walking through the room with the tv and may lay down and stay for a while. Poppy is also starting to come closer for attention but still tentative. She does better with foster mom and is still learnings to her foster dad. When riding in a car she shakes and pants but calms down a bit if someone is sitting beside her. Poppy likes being outside and is overcoming her fear of doors. It took several weeks to walk through an open door by herself and some days it’s still scary. She is working on using a doggie door with the flaps taped open so she can follow the other foster dog. She is beginning to chew and play with toys.
Poppy is doing well with house-training. She likes someone to go outside with her as noise and the dark are still a bit scary. Poppy is learning to walk on a leash. She will walk a few feet and freeze. Poppy will need continued help learning to trust and needs patience as she does things at her pace. She will do best in a home with another socialized dog and a securely fenced yard.
