Meet Nova! Are you an experienced dog owner? Nova needs you
Nova came to rescue fearful and timid. Unfortunately, she has experienced trauma from a previous dog trainer as well as from her family. Nova brought fears and uncertainties with her, she was slow to accept human touch and can still be cautious and suspicious when approached. If she wants to be pet, she will come and ask for it, even liking a good belly rub. If her collar is on, she will accept a leash for a walk. But if her collar has been removed, for example for grooming, she is afraid of having it put back on. She is also afraid of a slip lead. She loves to ride in the car. Grooming scares her and she is best groomed while sedated at the vet. Sedated exams are also suggested for Nova.
It has taken some time for Nova to feel comfortable with rehoming. She is observant of what is going on within the home and likes to be included. She will retreat to her safe place when she feels the need, mostly when other dogs are in the mix. Nova seems to feel the need to observe the other dogs in the home to walk past her spot and if they get too close, she will growl and / or luge at them. For this reason, Nova will need to be the only animal in the home. No Children.
With her history abuse Nova likely has several triggers that will have to slowly be discovered over time. Nova is highly food motivated, very good at sit, down, and touch and go to your room. She can be very polite. Nova would thrive in an adult-only home where she could get individual love and attention. A personal trainer would be icing on the cake for Nova in her forever home.
