Meet Chimichanga – The Little Dog with the Biggest Heart

Some dogs want treats. Some dogs want toys. Chimichanga just wants someone to love him.

His name fits him perfectly! Chimi is full of personality, happiness, and love. His whole body wiggles when he's excited, and his sweet spirit shines through everything he does. But underneath that cheerful smile is a little boy whose heart has clearly been broken before.

When his owner surrendered him to a rural Kansas animal shelter, Chimi was terrified. The sudden loss of everything familiar left him overwhelmed with anxiety. Thankfully, the compassionate animal control officers recognized that this wasn't a dog who belonged behind kennel bars. They reached out to Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue, hoping Chimi could heal in the comfort of a loving foster home instead.

They were absolutely right.

Chimi is what Cocker Spaniel lovers affectionately call a "Velcro dog." Wherever his foster mom goes, Chimi is never far behind. If she gets up to refill her coffee, he's right there. If she's working at her desk, his favorite place in the world is curled up underneath it, peacefully napping, just happy knowing his person is close.

He isn't clingy because he's difficult. He's clingy because somewhere along the way he learned that the people he loves can disappear. His greatest wish is simply to know that this time...someone will stay.

Life in foster care has shown us just how wonderful this little guy truly is. He loves playing in the yard with his foster siblings, has become friends with the resident tiny senior "pocket dog," and enjoys romping with his fellow Cocker Spaniels. Every day he grows a little more confident as he learns that life can be safe, fun, and full of love.

We also suspect Chimi has experienced hunger in his past. He's quite thin, and because he worries his food might disappear, he currently eats separately from the other dogs. This isn't because he's a "bad" dog—it's because survival taught him to protect what he had. As he continues to receive regular meals, patience, and reassurance, we're already seeing him begin to relax. With consistency and positive training, we fully expect his confidence to continue growing.

At the end of the day, nothing makes Chimi happier than curling up beside his person on the couch for movie night, quietly soaking up every cuddle he can get.

He's also working hard on learning all the important things that come with being a cherished family member—house manners, crate training, and walking politely on a leash. He's a smart little boy who simply needs someone willing to continue showing him the world is a kind place.

The best part? Chimi absolutely adores people. He greets everyone with hope in his eyes and one simple question that seems to say:  "Will you love me?" When you look into those warm brown Cocker Spaniel eyes, you can almost hear his heart whispering, "Please let this be my forever."

If you're looking for a dog who will love you with every ounce of his heart, follow you faithfully through life's everyday moments, and remind you daily what unconditional love looks like, Chimichanga may be the companion you've been waiting for.

He's not looking for perfection. He's looking for belonging. Could your home be the place where this sweet little boy finally discovers that forever really does exist? We have a feeling that if you meet Chimichanga, you won't just be adopting a dog... You'll be meeting the love of your life.
