Pre-Adoption Info

Adoption Fees:

  • $450 - Dogs up to 2 years old
  • $350 - Adult dogs: 2 years through 8 years
  • $200 - Senior dogs: 9 years and older

NOTE: Our adoption fees are not specifically for the purchase of a dog, but rather to partially cover the medical costs of all dogs in our care. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption to any person for the well-being of the dog

Adoption Inclusions:

At adoption, Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue dogs will be current on their vaccines and will have the following:

    • Spay/Neuter
    • Microchip (if not already chipped)
    • All State-mandated vaccinations
    • Grooming (if needed)
    • A full veterinary exam to identify any potential health issues

NOTE: RMCR attempts to resolve known health issues prior to adoption.

Long Distance Adoptions:

All dogs are placed in their new home AFTER the applicant has been approved, which includes a phone interview, reference checks, a home visit, and a meet-and-greet with the dog. Out of state home checks can be performed by someone associated with another licensed rescue or shelter in your area. RMCR does NOT adopt dogs to any applicant sight-unseen. After a long-distance applicant is approved, they must travel to the foster home’s city/town to meet the dog. If the applicant wants to pursue adopting that dog, an adoption contract is signed, the adoption fee is paid and the dog can leave with the applicant. The adoption contract states if a dog does not properly fit into your home, lifestyle or environment, regardless of the reason, it must be returned to any city in which RMCR operates, including other states, such as NM, KS, MO, WY.

Sterilization Requirements (Spay/Neuter)

PACFA Sterilization Policy:
If a licensed veterinarian declares in writing that a "sterilization procedure could jeopardize the life or health of the dog, the procedure may be delayed until such time a licensed veterinarian determines that the dog is fit to undergo the sterilization procedure."

RMCR Adoptions of Dogs under age 6 months:

RMCR promotes and supports controlling the pet population by having all dogs safely sterilized prior to adoption, but not prior to the age of 6 months. However, a Temporary Sterilization Waiver from a licensed veterinarian, reviewed and approved by RMCR's Board of Directors, allows a dog under 6 months to be adopted according to the following policy:

1. RMCR will not adopt any dog that has not been spayed/neutered unless a Temporary Sterilization Waiver from a licensed veterinarian has been submitted and approved. Contact RMCR to receive the Temporary Sterilization Waiver form letter.

2. When a dog has an approved Temporary Sterilization Waiver on file, a $450 non-refundable donation in the name of the dog is required. This donation will be used towards the cost of the dog's future sterilization surgery and all pain medication needed for recovery.

3. When the dog has been cleared for sterilization (after the age of 6 months), the adopter shall contact RMCR, select a veterinarian from a list of RMCR approved veterinarian clinics, and then schedule the sterilization surgery. The adopter shall follow the veterinarian's discharge instructions.

4. If Adopter chooses not to use one of RMCR's veterinarians, the adopter shall be responsible for all costs associated with the Sterilization Surgery.

The History of a Rescued Dog:

RMCR receives dogs from a variety of sources including owners who are relinquishing their dogs and from shelters where dogs have either been relinquished or picked up as strays. The history of these animals is often minimal at best and we must rely on veterinarians and shelter personnel to provide data such as age, health status and social temperament. We will gladly forward any and all information regarding the dog to a potential adopter. However, if your vet disagrees with the information we were provided, we shall not be held responsible for disseminating false information. RMCR will never knowingly withhold any information given to us when we received the dog.
