Calling out to a dog lover who wants a young and active companion!
Chewbacca, aka, Chewy, is still much of a puppy. He loves being outside, his favorite pastime is chasing bunnies and squirrels from the yard. He also loves snow, playing in it, eating it! He has even enjoyed being a companion on a paddle board. Chewy is wicked smart, picking up new tricks and challenges easily. He is generally very acceptable to training and shows great promise. Chewy has a 'lovie' that he carries around, will squeak, but not destroy. He has cuddled it, given it a bath in the water bowl, and adores it. Speaking of water bowls, he likes to 'go swimming' in the bowl, pawing at it playfully. He will dip his full snout into the bowl to retrieve ice cubes- so cute! Thinking he would love a pool in the summer to play in. He loves Kongs and puzzles as well. While he is not a cuddler per se, he will love some pets and seek you out when he's wanting some.
Chewy has a history of nipping, growling, and resource guarding and has been known to resource guard his people, has occasional dog food and some threshold guarding. He can be hyperactive. For these reasons and to help us find the right forever home for Chewy he is currently at All Dog’s Unleashed in Colorado Springs in their Board and Train Program. They are doing this as their donation to rescue. He is doing great in his training. His report cards say that he is full of personality, is motivated, and showing solid progress every day. They have been focusing on his core commands: sit, place, stay, come when called, and is responding to leash pressure. Along the way, they continue working to reduce unwanted behaviors like reactivity, jumping, mouthing, chewing, and leash pulling. He’s learning quickly and gaining confidence with each session! They are seeing noticeable improvement in his obedience and overall mindset, saying he is such a sweet, fun dog!
Chewbacca has continued to make steady, meaningful progress in all areas of his training. He’s really starting to solidify his understanding of the core commands they introduced earlier and he’s now performing them with greater consistency, even in higher-distraction environments. These kinds of improvements show not only progress in obedience but also his growing emotional regulation and confidence. Behaviorally, they are seeing some great shifts. His reactivity is decreasing, he’s learning to pause, check in, and respond to guidance rather than reacting impulsively. Chewy’s jumping and mouthing have also become less frequent, and when they do happen, he’s redirecting more easily with just a verbal cue. He’s starting to understand boundaries more clearly and seems to really enjoy having structure and guidance. He’s also doing well with loose-leash walking, learning that good things come when he walks calmly by your side.
Beyond the technical side, Chewbacca continues to be a truly delightful dog. He’s affectionate, goofy in the best way, and so willing to work. He’s built strong, positive relationships with the trainers and is getting along well with the other dogs. His personality really shines through during play breaks and down time—he’s such a sweet, social pup, and they know he’s going to carry this progress back home with him.
Chewy is ready to go into a foster home or a forever home, without children. If you are an approved adopter or foster home our Foster Director will put you in touch with All Dogs Unleashed so that you can talk to them directly about Chewy to see if your home will be a good fit. In addition, when you agree to take Chewy they will give you and your family two hours of training at the center with Chewy so that you know exactly what they have been doing and will be able to carry out the same.
