Ollie is a very sweet boy that loves to be with his dog parent(s) all the time. He insists on going with you all the time and it has been a challenge to make him stay behind when we need to go somewhere in the car. It took a few days but now he will stay when told “stay and no” by the back door so that we can leave. However, be prepared for a broken heart because of the sad forlorn look he gives you when you leave. He is a great watchdog with a deep and ferocious sounding bark. He loves to walk but hates the leash – this will take some time and repetition. Ollie prefers to walk alone without a second dog. He might be happier as the only dog in the home. He drinks lots of water and is very well housebroken. He learns to use a doggie door very quickly and is excellent at doing all his business outdoors. He is vocal when he wants something or your attention. No barking but he might whine a bit and paw at your arm. He knows his name and comes to both Ollie and Oliver.
He seems to get on well with other dogs as long as they are friendly and about his size. He is about 36-37 pounds with a full tail. We have a 3½ year old female spayed cocker that has a difficult personality. She is an alpha around the house and insists on things and possessions her way. Ollie is respectful of her food and does not disturb her when she is eating. It seems he would be perfect as an only dog or with a less nuanced dog that he can easily understand, communicate with and play with. His one big negative is paper, tissue and strangely enough only anything white (cloths, hankies, etc.). He seeks them out and will grab one whenever he can from wherever he can and shred it and try to eat it. He loves to chew and giving him a huge beef knuckle bone (safe and no splintering) will occupy him for hours.
Overall, Ollie is a loving, super friendly dog with an expressive personality
