Goose 25-24043-2

Hi! My Name Is Goose 25-24043-2

I'm Available

GOOSE has been returned to the rescue. His adopters forgot he can be protective and within the last 8 months of ownership, he bit a hand, twice. This gorgeous cocker boy is 32 lbs, possibly mixed with Basset Hound (he has short legs, Basset feet and a well-rounded head) and neutered. After living outside in the NM heat, he arrived early in 2024, his age was estimated and assigned a birthday of Feb 27, 2020 ( 5.5+ years young).

Goose isn’t the same dog as when he first arrived 18 mos ago. He went thru extensive training and it shows! He’s grown, learned much, and shines with his soft coat. At heart, Goose is a loyal protector who bonds deeply with his person. He likes being petted, enjoys his quiet time, and has no problem exploring the yard or hanging out nearby. He’s house trained, uses the doggie door, and has done excellent in the crate overnight; he accepts his crate during the day as long as his person is in the same room.

Goose has a bite history, which means he will need an experienced, confident adopter who understands dog body language and is committed to respecting his boundaries. He doesn’t like being forced into situations, such as being touched while guarding his person or being pushed into a crate. With a treat and patience, though, he’s quick and happy to cooperate.

Goose thrives when his humans give him space to feel safe and in control. If he’s sitting by your side and another dog or stranger approaches, the best way to keep things smooth is to calmly get up and redirect before he feels the need to protect. He responds well to this and quickly settles. He is a very quick learner; you can see his mind absorbing new experiences.

After performing appropriate dog introductions, he shows respect for other dogs. He has shown to stay away from and ignore the more dominant pups, but wants to play with those who show an interest in return. Goose has not initiated conflicts with other dogs. Goose enjoys exploring outdoors, marking every corner outside with his stocky little strut (we think there may be a touch of Basset in him!). Goose has not been known to have accidents in the house. His long tail wags often and he is exploring doggie chew toys. He also knows how to "sit" and "sit up" - very treat motivated. Goose is not food aggressive and doesn't shove his food into his belly.

 Goose’s Ideal Home

Goose is a great dog with a lot to give — he simply needs the right person/family who will love him for who he is and respect the boundaries that make him feel safe. With the right match, he’ll be your most loyal friend and protector.
