Angel is a gentle and sweet 10-year-old Cocker Spaniel who lived her life in a puppy mill before coming into rescue with RMCR. As a result, she is extremely cautious and afraid of new things. However, she is making progress in her own time. The first week in her foster home, Angel hid behind the shower curtain in the bathroom. When she started to spend time outside the bathroom, she hid behind a recliner in the living room. After a few months of being in a calm and accepting home, Angel lets her foster mom pet her and she does a happy dance when her foster mom comes home, her tail wagging wildly. Although Angel sleeps in a dog bed near her foster mom’s bed she’s begun to take naps on the bed (with the help of doggie stairs). She takes herself out through a doggie door to do her business.
Since Angel is deaf it’s especially important that she has a securely fenced yard. She doesn’t know how to walk on a leash yet and is afraid of her harness. New things can be scary for a former mill dog and that is the case for Angel. Because she’s afraid of new things, a home with children isn’t a good fit for Angel. She is passive with the other four dogs in the house and rarely barks. Angel may benefit from living with another calm dog in the home to help her learn how to live a good life. Angel recently had 21 teeth pulled and she eats a blend of small kibble mixed with soft food.
This sweet girl needs a home where she can continue to learn to trust. She needs a calm possibly older adult home who will not expect a lot from her at this time. After a while she may warm up to her new parents and allow them to cuddle her. You will need to respect her need to hide. With love and care, Angel will have the best years of her life.
