Koontz

Koontz is a very affectionate little six month old boy with somewhat unusual coloration–he’s dark brown with some gold and white patches, and he is just beautiful.  As you can see from his pictures, he loves rawhide chewy toys!  Koontz came to us from Kansas where he was in a high-kill shelter and was hours away from being euthanized when he was relayed to us, but he immediately settled into his foster home.  He’s initially more friendly with women than men, but was playing with his foster uncle in the yard minutes after they met.  He is fully housebroken, crate trained, and chews nothing but his toys.  He has a little separation anxiety, as shown by barking for a minute or so when his foster mama leaves the room, but settles right down and plays quietly with the other dogs.  Koontz knows sit, off, come, wait and cookie, and loves to give kisses and play gently with feet.  He is neutered, microchipped, and has all his shots.  He’s good on a leash.  He’s just waiting for his forever home now.  Koontz would probably do best as an only dog.

Sammy

Sammy is around two years old.  He is a very handsome, gentle Cocker, thoughtful and well behaved. He is somewhat smaller in size than most and has a very attractive coat.  He has a kind of Huck Finn personality.  He can trick you into putting down the book and let him curl up in your lap.  He lays very still. Just being near a welcoming person gives him sighs of contentment.  He loves to play with other dogs. Should be good with loder kids but we’re unsure about cats.  He is so accommodating he could be brought around.   House training needs to be reinforced to continue his good habits.  Will sleep in crate without fuss.  If you want a companion to go with you through life with laughter and love, look no further.

Sammy will be up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and microchipped before being adopted.  If you are interested in meeting him, please complete an online adoption application.

Barcelona

Barcelona has an adoption application pending!!

Barcelona (we call him Bart for short) is a lively Cocker mix –we think he might have a little Australian Cattle Dog in him based on his coloring and coat texture.

His story is one of the reasons we do rescue:  he was seen being thrown from a moving car in Missouri!  Despite that, he seems to be in great health and not traumatized at all.  He is very affectionate, sweet and friendly.  Bart knows about chasing balls, comes when called, and knows sit, down, and cookie.  This little cutie is fully house-trained and gets along well with the other dogs, rides great in the car and only tugs a little on a leash–we’re working on that.  Bart did great with children at a recent adoption event.  This three year old little boy has been neutered and has all his shots.  We’re not sure how he is around cats, so a cat-free home would be a good suggestion.

Cooper

Cooper has an adoption application pending!

Cooper is coming into rescue because his owner is facing surgery and will have a lengthy rehab period. She feels that a new home will be better for him than shuffling him around during that time frame. Here’s what she has to say about this seven year old tri-colored male:

He loves, loves, loves to fetch and chase balls. He is happiest when he is at the park or the dog park playing. Cooper has never lived with small children but when we encounter them, he just sits and lets them do whatever to him. He has been known to sit at a childs table with little girls and have a tea party. He has no objection to wearing the hats they put on him so I am sure he would be great with kids. He loves women but is not crazy about men in caps or men with beards. He will eventually warm up to them but it may take awhile.

Cooper does not shed. I love that about him. He has very soft, curly fur and he likes to be brushed. He sleeps on his own bed in my room and has been known to run in his dreams. Pretty funny to watch. He is not crate trained. He has a pretty good vocabulary and obeys very well.

If I could pick the perfect home for Cooper, it would be a home where the new parents own and not rent. Moving alot seems disruptive to him. I would love for him to have a yard and a doggie door. He would be great with a single woman or a family with kids and/or another dog. As long as he is walked and exercised, he is a great dog. If he is not exercised, he will let you know that he is bored and may potty in the house. I would like to know that wherever he ends up, his new family will know that there will be an adjustment period and given a little time, Cooper will make the family so happy and he will be a great dog and a loyal friend.

Scooter

Scooter is tri-color male Cocker Spaniel who is approximately three years old.  He is coming into rescue because his family is moving and can’t take him with them.

Scooter had a recent bout with autoimmune hemolytic anemia and was treated and is now on a maintenance plan that consists of a half a pill every other week.  He seems to be doing very well.  Scooter has not been left in the house to roam freely, so he will need a patient owner that will work patiently with him to learn how to behave in the house.  He sleeps in his crate at night and is quite comfortable with this set-up.  He has never been around small children or cats, so we recommend a home that is cat and toddler-free.  He likes playing with squeeky toys and knows some basic commands.  He will need to be neutered and checked out by a vet before he is adopted, but we will take care of those costs.

If you are interested in meeting Scooter, please complete one of our online adoption applications.

Mercury

Mercury is an 18 month old spayed female Cocker Spaniel that came to us from a puppy mill in Kansas.  She is up to date on all of her vaccinations and is micro-chipped.

Mercury was not well-socialized when she was in the puppy mill and therefore is quite shy.  We feel that she would make an excellent pet to someone with a quiet household and the patience to help her work through her shyness.  She gets along well with other dogs and is not interested in cats.  We would not recommend placing her in a home with small children.

If you are interested in Mercury, please complete our online adoption application.

Meet Lily – Adopted

Lily is a beautiful, tri-colored, 7-year-old female American Cocker Spaniel who is so very sweet and lovable with people of all ages and with dogs. She even snuggles with cats!

Lily needs a very diligent owner willing to stay on top of her twice-weekly ear cleaning so they stay infection-free. She is also on thyroid pills for the rest of her life for hypothyroidism, which means she’s a little on the chunky side and she’d love to take you for daily walks. Lily is a Velcro dog, submissive, quiet, and calm. She’s not a big barker, but she will alert her people when the doorbell rings. Lily also likes to go after snakes and voles, so she will dig for them if she finds their hiding places.

Lily has been spayed, was raised around children and is both house- and crate-trained. She is up-to-date on all her vaccinations. Once you meet this sweetheart, you will fall in love!

Meet Bandit – Adopted

Bandit is a very handsome, 5-year-old, tri-colored American Cocker Spaniel who needs to find a new home because of a move and a new baby in his owners’ lives. This athletic boy would do great with a single person or an active couple without young children who will hike with him (his very favorite thing to do) and cuddle up with him on the couch at the end of the day. (Doesn’t that sound like the perfect day?)

Bandit is house-trained, knows basic commands, gets along with other dogs and is leash trained. He is not crate-trained; he sleeps on his bed or the couch and roams free in the house when he’s home alone for up to 10-12 hours a day. He does have some resource guarding with food and toys, but that can be modified with training. His current owners have an infant who is learning to crawl; he avoids the baby at all costs, so we will not place him in a home with children under the age of seven.

This plush-toy loving boy is already neutered and up-to-date on his shots, so he is ready for his new forever home!
