Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue

Cocoa

Cocoa has an adoption application pending!  You can still apply with the understanding that she may not be available.

“I don’t do fashion; I AM fashion.” So said Coco Chanel, who would think this little girl was equally fabulous! This Cocoa Chanel (love the pun!) is five year old AKC-registered owner surrender from Arkansas. Cocoa is a sweet little girl who will make a great family pet. She gets along with other dogs and all people. She is perfectly housetrained and also crate trained. She sleeps best in a crate at night, but loves to cuddle on the couch too. She loves squeaky balls, and knows sit, lie down and come. She is very food motivated, so learned these tricks quickly.

She tolerates having her ears cleaned and lets you take things away away or out of her mouth easily. She had an unknown injury to her right eye in 2009 and had it removed, but that doesn’t affect her at all (and it doesn’t look creepy!). Her coat is shiny and healthy, except that the fur on the front of her throat has been rubbed off—we’re not sure if that’s from a shock collar or pulling at a tie-out. So we would request that Cocoa be walked only on a harness.

We believe Cocoa was originally in a rural environment, and she is adjusting to the bustle of a city neighborhood—she is learning the command ‘hush’ to keep her from barking at people outside. When she arrived at her foster home, she was a hefty 40 lbs, but with a diet and walks she is now a svelte 34 lbs! Cocoa has had her ears and teeth cleaned and will be microchipped shortly and she is up to date on her vaccinations. You know what they say—Chanel is forever! Can’t you be Cocoa Chanel’s forever home?

Coco’s Happy Tale

Carol and Coco

Coco is another of our sweet Cocker Spaniels that never made it onto the Web site.  Word of mouth led her to Carol before we could even post her.  Coco came to us from a local shelter and she needed to be spayed and groomed before we could get photos of her to post to our Web site.  Her foster mom had heard that Carol was looking to find a new companion after her beloved Brooke had passed away from cancer.  So, a meeting was arranged and that was that!  Carol has a new companion and Coco has a new forever home!  All is well in their world.

Pixie

This is Pixie! And yup, she’s not a Cocker. Pixie came all the way from Sacramento as a favor to another rescue because she wasn’t in a no-kill shelter. Pixie is a 13 lb maltese/poodle/terrier mix. She is about 6 years old, and does well with other small dogs (and Cockers!). She LOVES to play ball, and has lots of energy for playing with toys and exploring the back yard. She sleeps in her crate or on a dog bed. She is housebroken, and is fine being left loose in the house (no doggie door!). We think she was a city apartment dog, because she tends to go potty on the concrete and is still figuring out what grass is for (so far, excellent for writhing on). She is a happy little doggy, and adjusted to her foster home almost immediately—hopping up on the couch to sit in our laps and get love. Her prior owners stated she is afraid of thunder and fireworks, and she’s not been afraid of anything in the house. Her coat is short and curly with touches of tan, and her little tail wags constantly. She responds well to being told no, and is not a barker. She walks nicely on a leash. She’s had all her vaccinations, is microchipped, and will be spayed shortly. Pixie is perfectly named—she is a happy, lively little girl who will bring joy and laughter to a forever home—hopefully yours!

If you are interested in meeting Pixie, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Lady

Lady is just like her name–a little lady! After extensive surgeries, she is healthy, well, and a very happy 10 year old dog. She’s sedate, but romps with the other dogs when it’s playtime. She is hard of hearing but not deaf–she hears where I call “cookies” very well!  Lady is very loving and adores sleeping on the couch next to her foster mama. She gets along great with the other dogs and cats, and is almost too well potty-trained: immediately after her first surgery she insisted on tottering to the potty pad: after that she insisted on going outside. Lady knows Sit, Come, and Off, Outside and Cookie.

She’s had an eye removed and is on inexpensive twice-daily drops in the remaining eye to prevent glaucoma. Of course, she doesn’t think she has a problem: she negotiates the house and the yard without a problem.

Lady walks well on a leash, chews nothing but her own toys, and is a total little love-bug!  She sometimes gets grouchy when there are other dogs around that she can’t see, but gets over it immediately.

Please give our little Lady a good home. She is the sweetest dog ever made, with absolutely no behavior problems. Oops! I forgot: she gets into the kitchen trash container very cleverly and loves to eat used tissues.  She’s fully vetted, spayed and microchipped and is ready to be your new best friend.

Punkin

Punkin is the sweetest little Cocker girl in the world. A little timid at first, but she warms up quickly and is very affectionate. She was probably a breeding or puppy mill mama, but those days are behind her. Punkin is a little smaller than most Cockers at about 18 pounds. She loves playing with other dogs, gets along great with children and cats, and likes chasing balls. She has a very gentle mouth and chews very gently, and only chews on her toys. When she first came in from Nebraska, she had never seen grass, stairs, or a television, and had no idea what a leash was for or any idea about treats. At this point, she is willing to walk on grass and climb stairs, though the television still sometimes confuses her! She is definitely getting used to the idea of taking treats from hands and does well on a leash.

Punkin has only one problem: she is not house-trained. She was probably kept in a kennel with free access to a concrete run, and that’s all she knows. She currently is allowed free access to a concrete patio all day, and puppy pads at night, which has largely eliminated the indoor accidents. Punkin will probably do best in a home with a doggie door and a concrete patio. Other than that, she is an absolutely perfect little girl who loves cuddling and petting.

Punkin is about four years old, has all her shots, and has been spayed and microchipped. A home that can accommodate her potty problems will have the sweetest little girl in the world!

If you are interested in meeting Punkin, please make sure you have completed an online adoption application.

Zebie

Zebie is a small six year old female Cocker Spaniel that came to us from Utah.  She weighs around 22 pounds.

Zebie is very shy, but is a total love.   She may have come from an abusive situation because she tends to cower a bit and tends to stay close to her kennel until she feels safe in her environment.  She would probably do best in a quiet home without young children or other energetic animals.  We ‘re told that she gets along with cats.  Her current foster home has a senior female Cocker Spaniel and they get along well.  She is house trained and kennel trained (she loves her kennel!)

Zebie is spayed, will be microchipped for her new owners and is up to date on all of her vaccinations.

If you are interested in meeting Zebie, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Pebbles

Pebbles is an energetic two year old female Cocker Spaniel that was an owner surrender to one of the local shelters.  She is a total sweetheart who bonds quickly with her caretakers.  She is black with a fair amount of white on her chest.  She also has very light, barely noticeable, white patches on her head and back.  Also, she also has one blue eye and one brown eye!

She has been fostered with other dogs and with a cat and gets along well.  We don’t know anything about her past or why she was surrendered, but she seems to be the happiest little girl ever.  Her little tail never seems to stop wagging and she dearly loves a tummy rub!  One of her ear flaps is thick with cartilage as if it was damaged when she was younger.  She seems to be house trained and learned how to use a doggy door almost immediately.  She loves to dance on her back legs for attention or to try and see what’s on the kitchen counter!

Pebbles is indeed a joy and would make a wonderful addition to any home.  She is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations and microchipped.

Maggie (6 year old white/tan)

Meet Maggie!  She is a six year old buff and white female Cocker Spaniel from Colorado Springs.  Her mom is having to relocate and can’t take Maggie with her, so she’s looking for a new home.

Maggie is spayed and is up to date on her vaccines (Rabies due 01/12 and others 12/11).  Maggie is prone to ear infections, but her current diet seems to be helping keep those under control.  She gets along well with other dogs and has proven to be trusted alone in the home, roaming freely for extended periods of time.  She is house trained, but not crate trained.  She’s good with children as long as they don’t pull on her ears.  She knows basic commands and will shake or give you a high five.

If you are interested in meeting Maggie, please make sure you’ve completed an onlne adoption applcation.

Paris

Paris is a very friendly seven year old female carmel colored Cocker Spaniel.  She is very sweet, and does get intimidated easily.  She has no aggression whatsoever towards people or animals.  She is spayed and her shot records are up to date and aren’t due until 2012.  She had a disc herniation at one point but fully recovered.  House trained is taken care of and she also knows the commands to sit and come.  She barks some when she doesn’t know the stranger but that she means no harm.  She likes the outdoors but mostly enjoys being loved.

If you want to enjoy the life with this Cocker Spaniel, please complete an online adoption application.

Blackie

Blackie is approximately nine years old and is looking for a new home.  Her mom has to relocate and will be traveling with the relocation, so she felt it best to find Blackie a new home where she can be treated like a princess!  She is a little overweigh, but she gets along with kids and other dogs, so a home with more activity would help her get back into shape.  We’re not sure about cats.  She is house trained and can be trusted to be left free inside unattended.  She’s up to date on her vaccines (rabies vaccine is due in September).   We’re not sure if she is microchipped, but we can take care of that upon adoption.

Nine years might seem fairly old, however Cockers typically live 15-16 years , so she still has a long life ahead of her.  She deserves the chance to live her golden years being spoiled!

If you think you’re the one to receive the love of this wonderful girl, please make sure you have completed one of our online adoption applications.  Her mom has to move on July 10th, so don’t wait!
