They are owner surrenders. Their mom is remarrying and her husband-to-be is allergic to dogs. Anna is the buff colored female and Alidza is the black one. They are both house trained and social with other dogs and cats. They are both up to date on vaccinations and are spayed. They have been exposed to small children and have done fine. These girls would make a wonderful addition to any home.

Sadie is a one and one-half year old Cocker mix that came to us from New Mexico. She is a very sweet, loving dog that just says “love me” when she looks at you with those beautiful eyes. She is quite obedient, walks well on a leash, comes immediately when you call her name and is not food aggressive, but she does get so excited when it comes to treats that she can hardly contain herself. She was housetrained when we got her and now she is a pro at the doggy door as well. While she is slightly timid, she is quite friendly with everyone she meets and gets along well with her housemates, Blackjack and Pepper (though Pepper wasn’t the happiest when she arrived, she’s gotten used to and accepts her now). However, Sadie never batted a lash if Pepper growled at her to get off the same couch, she just jumped off and sat on the floor nearby. She is quite playful and likes chasing after plastic balls, tennis ones too except that she then chews those right up.

Sadie has a full tail and is white with black merle markings. She is up to date on all vaccinations and is spayed. RMCR will microchip her for you.

If you are interested in meeting Sadie, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

This is what Iris’s foster mom has to say about her:

Beats me how this sweet, intelligent, lovable little girl wound up as an unclaimed stray in a local animal shelter. Did I mention she is beautiful? At her checkup last week, she weighed in at a petite 15 pounds. She is white with buff spots, light buff ears, a little kissing spot on the top of her head, a few freckles on her nose, and large, soulful eyes. The shelter named her Iris, which is her legal name for now, but I call her Sugar, because everyone who meets her comments on her sweetness. People also think she looks like a puppy. The shelter estimated her age at eleven years. The veterinarian who cleaned her teeth last week thinks she could be as young as eight years. Iris has just been given all her vaccinations including a series of two canine flu vaccinations, and has been tested negative for heartworm. She had been spayed in her previous life.

She loves to go for walks, does a dance when she knows she gets to go, and is friendly with everyone she meets, whether they have two legs or four. She is house trained and sleeps in my bedroom on her dog bed. She sleeps through the night, and I have to wake her in the morning. I do not crate her when I leave the house, but so far I have only left her for a couple of hours at a time. She stays off the furniture unless invited, and she has not been destructive. She is very quiet. I have only heard one little woof out of her to the dog on the other side of the fence. Her voice is as tiny and cute as she is. It is obvious she has been loved by someone, and she should become a beloved companion for her lucky new owner.

If you are interested in meeting Iris, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Hi, I’m Beatrice, a shiny black Cockapoo with a thin white stripe down my chest and a little white under my chin. I’m supposed to be 9 years old; however, my foster parents think I’m more like 5 years old due to my playful nature and energy level. I prance and dance and wiggle my little tail a lot when I’m happy. I seek out petting and loving from my people. I’m a little shy around strangers, but once I get to know you I’ll follow you everywhere. I sleep in an open crate at night (no need to lock me in) and when my people are not around. They trust me not to make a mess when they are out. I’m a quiet girl who is housetrained and I get along well other other dogs. My previous owners had a noisy, busy household that was a little overwhelming for me. I would prefer a quieter home without young children.

I had my teeth cleaned recently and I’m microchipped and fully vaccinated.

If you are interested in meeting Beatrice, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Kula is a seven year old male black Cockapoo. Marley is a six year old female black merle Cockapoo. They would need to be adopted together as they have never been separated. These two are both house trained. Both dogs are crate trained but Kula hates to be crated and is usually allowed to roam free within the home with no incidents. Both enjoy human companionship and enjoy going on walks. They are both altered and are up to date on their vaccinations until 2013. They know several trick, including how to shake. Marley also knows how to give a high-five and understands “wait”.

If you are interested in meeting these two, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Meet Zoe! She is a ten year old spayed black and tan female Cocker Spaniel. Her family is moving and cannot take her with them. She secretly said that she prefers the weather in Colorado anyway!

She gets along well with other dogs, is house trained and leash trained. She is up to date on her vaccinations and RMCR will make sure she has a microchip. She’s a 100% indoor dog, but loves to go for walks and be outside with you. She gets along with children, but as with most dogs her age, we recommend that she not be placed in a home with toddlers. We’re not sure about cats.

If you are interested in meeting Zoe, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption form.

Lilly is a three year old Cocker Spaniel mix. She looks as if she may have some Golden Retriever genes going on. She is slightly larger than your typical Cocker Spaniel and does have a full tail.

She was left behind, chained in the back yard, when her owners moved out of their house. Good Samaritan neighbors took her in and fed her and called RMCR to see if we could help find her a new home. They made sure she had a new groom before we moved her into foster care. She is a super sweet girl, however she’s a little timid. She doesn’t quite know what’s going on yet. She tends to shy away from attention until she gets to know you and she is especially timid around men. She does, however, warm up in short time!

She seems to be house trained, is up to date on her vaccinations, and RMCR will make sure she’s microchipped. She gets along well with other dogs, but we’re not sure about cats, but we feel that she would be fine. She does well with older kids, however toddlers may be too active for her.

If you are interested in meeting Lilly, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption form.

Pepper is an eight year old black and white female Cocker Spaniel that was found on the side of the road in Logan County. No one ever claimed her and the shelter felt she’d have a better chance of finding a good home if she were in rescue.

Pepper has a cherry eye that needed to be fixed, but she went into heat just about the time she arrived at her foster home. The vet felt it would be best to let her run her cycle and then perform surgery on her eye and to spay her at the same time. She is up to date on her vaccinations and will soon be ready for her new home. RMCR will microchip her as well.

Pepper seems to be house trained and gets along with her Cocker companion in her foster home. We’re not sure about cats! Her foster mom says that she has completely adjusted to life in her home and is very loving and obedient. She is very mild mannered, so she should be fine with children as well.

Matty comes to us from Kansas, where she was abandoned in an apartment when her owners moved. She arrived at the animal shelter in a terribly matted condition, scared and sad. No one came looking for her, and so after being groomed to get rid of her dirty, matted coat, she came to RMCR to await her new home. Matty is a super sweet little girl of about 25 pounds. Her coat is now coming in soft and white, with patches of tan. She has a little snub face with big brown eyes, reminiscent of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Matty sleeps through the night on her dog bed, and loves to curl up on the couch to get love. Matty does tend to be a bit of a ‘hall monitor’—meaning she likes all the other doggies to be quiet and well behaved! When they aren’t she’ll run over and chastise them by barking and hopping about. Her little tail is wagging, but other dogs could see it as aggressive. So for that reason, she probably shouldn’t go to dog parks. She mostly gets along with her cocker foster brother, but would probably be happiest as an only dog.

Since Matty was abandoned, we don’t know her exact age, but we estimate between 8-9 years old. This does not mean she’s old!! Cockers live to be 14-16 years, so Matty has lots of life and pep left in her. Matty has been spayed, had her teeth cleaned, is up to date on her vaccinations and will be microchipped. She is house trained (no doggie door!) and walks well on a lead. She loves to go for walks and she likes stuffed squeaky toys. She likes all people, but prefers a quiet home; so small children may be too loud and energetic for her. Matty is a wonderful little girl who deserves more than being left behind in an apartment—she deserves a forever home! Can you be that home?

If you are interested in Matty, please complete an online adoption application.

This is Gidget!! Isn’t she cute?! Look at that freckled little face! She was abandoned by her owners, and ended up in the Rawlins WY shelter, where she spent two long months. She arrived at the shelter dirty, matted and scared, with ear and eye infections. She was shaved down and bathed, and got some medicine for her ears, and after two months an awesome volunteer there made it his mission to get her into a rescue. And that’s how she came to RMCR!

Gidget settled right into her foster home, and got along with her foster Cocker brother immediately. She is very curious and affectionate and loves to be near you to see what you are doing. She is playful and loves her squeaky ball and nylabones. She naturally thinks that anything you are eating, she should get to eat too and will stare at you with starving puppy eyes. She rides fairly well in the car and walks very nicely on a leash. She knows come and sit and is learning “get down” (off the furniture, etc). She is housetrained but still getting used to a schedule after being in the shelter for so long. We don’t know how she is with cats.

She has been spayed and had her teeth cleaned. She is up to date on all her vaccinations and tested negative for heartworm. She weighs 24 pounds, and her shaved coat is becoming soft and healthy once again. She will be undergoing surgery for a cherry eye, (prolapsed eyelid) but this does not affect her vision and should heal just fine. RMCR will also microchip her. Since she was abandoned, we don’t know exactly how old she is, but we estimate approximately nine or ten years old, based on her health and activeness. Even at nine or ten years, she does not act like an ‘old dog’—she is feisty and perky! Cockers live fourteen to sixteen years on average, and she has many years left to play and go for walks and be your very best friend!

If you are interested in meeting Gidget, please make sure you have completed an online adoption application.

March 9, 2012

Update on Gidget McGidgerson!! Since coming into the Rescue, Gidget has gone to the vet and been on medication for the inflammation of her cherry eye. The inflammation has resolved, but due to having had a cherry eye her whole life, she has permanent dry eye. She will require one prescription eye drop twice daily for life. These drops are about $25 a month, available online. Surgery to repair her cherry eye will not fix her dry eye and has a high rate of failure, so we have decided not to subject to her that unnecessary procedure. Her vision is very good and her eye doesn’t bother her. After about a week in her foster home, Gidget remembered what it is like to live in a house instead of a shelter kennel, and has had no more potty accidents in the house! She is good for about 8-9 hours loose in the house (no doggie door!). She loves to watch the fish, go for walks, steal her foster Cocker brother’s ball, and make us laugh with her antics. She gives kisses and cuddles and is a wonderful little dog full of life and pep. Gidget wants to be your best friend!
