Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue

Chloe

Chloe has a pending adoption application.  You can still apply with the understanding that she may not be available.

Announcing, Chloe, 4 yr old tri color from KS. Chloe is about 22-24 lbs and very fit.
She is very shy and timid, being a mill mama kept her secluded from all that is a puppy and dog.
She knows very few commands as yet, but we are working on that.
She is learning what toys are, treats and playing. We are working on her people skills as she is quite nervous around them.
She does not seem to be a barker as originally thought nor a piddler.
She does very well with other dogs, shows no agressions,  is house and crate trained. We do not know at this time of her disposition around cats. She is working on leash training and is still wary of leashes.

Chloe is doing well getting a bit more socialized, but has quite a way to go.
She has finally got the hang of the electronic dog door and she is now eating all of her food and drinking plenty of water.
She is still very spooked with people moving around but is trying to come closer each time her foster Mom sits still and calls her name.
She finally accepting treats from hand. And her lil’wiggle tail does go prety fast when her and her foster sister “play”. She is not sure of the toys other than she likes herding them all into one room for safe keeping!!

She is a quiet, sweet and very timid little girl who needs time and patience with her to learn what life can be like.
She will be an Amazing family member for some lucky family one day soon.
Oh and did we mention, she is beautiful!!
All immunizations are up to date and she is micro-chipped.

Star

Star’s real name is Estrella, which is Spanish for “star”.  This little girl is five years old and is a beautiful cinnamon color with white markings.  Star spent her first couple of years making puppies.  Because of her breading history, she has some bare spots on her back side which may or may not fully grow back.  This comes from the fur being worn off by the cage in which she was kept.

Star is remarkably social due to her history.  She loves people and is good with other dogs and cats, although she would prefer to be the alpha.  We will not adopt to Star to homes with children under the age of twelve.  She is spayed, has all her vaccinations and is micro-chipped.  She is doing very well on her house training in her foster home.  She is eager to please and would be a devoted pet to someone willing to give her a home.

If you are interested in meeting Star, please complete an online adoption application.

Eyore

Eyore was so scared!  He was in the shelter and whenever anyone came up to his kennel, he barked and snarled.  Everyone was scared to try to get him out for walks and to clean his kennel.  So, they were going to euthanize him.  He had lived with his senior person all of his life, but his person had to go to assisted living, so a neighbor took him.  The neighbor had too many dogs, so he couldn’t keep him and took him to the shelter.  Fortunately, the shelter folks called RMCR.  One of the volunteers went to the kennel, got a lead on him and took him out and petted him and calmed him down.  Even though the rescue is beyond full, they took him in.

Eyore is three years old.  We think he is a Cocker Spaniel/Cavalier King Charles mix.  This sweet boy is neutered and had his teeth cleaned and he is ready for a forever home.  He does well with all ages, but probably would do best in a home without young children.  He’s up to date on his vaccinations and will be micro-chipped as well.  He’s good with other dogs, but we recommend a home without cats.

If you are interested in Eyore, please complete an online adoption application.

Chance #2

Chance is a handsome 8-9 year old male that came to us from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. He was dumped at the local shelter for unknown reasons. He grabbed the attention of the local Cocker rescue volunteer and she wanted to save him, but they had no foster space, so they called us. He traveled north to Kansas City and was then transported to RMCR.

Chance is a wonderful little guy. His only issue is that he has cataracts, so his sight is limited. He’s not totally blind and is not handicapped by his condition. He’s good with other dogs and doesn’t seem to be bothered by cats. He’s very loveable and craves attention. He loves to go on walks and loves to be by your side.  He’s also quite fond of chew bones!  He’s neutered, up to date on all shots and is micro-chipped.

Chance would do well in a home without young children who might not understand his slight handicap. Besides, he’s at an age where he just wants to enjoy life, not play full time. If you are interested in meeting this wonderful fellow, please complete an online adoption application.

Tater

This handsome guy is named Tater. Tater is a 7-8 year old male Cocker Spaniel. He is white, black and tan in color.

Tater came to us significantly overweight.  While in foster care, he has already lost almost 10 pounds but still has a way to go.  He has been going to swim therapy to get more exercise and we hope this will assist in his weight loss.  Due to his significant weight, he also has a patch of fur that is really thin on his back, but it seems to be coming back.  This guy is gaining self confidence and would benefit from someone that is willing to give him attention and reassurance.  He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and is anxious to please.  Someone that could look past his current physical condition would be getting a wonderful companion.  He has been around children at adoption events and seems to get along with them as well.  We does fine around cats as well.

Tater neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations and is micro-chipped.

If you are interested in meeting Tater, please complete one of our online adoption applications.

Update from Tater’s foster mom, March 3, 2011:

“He was weighed when we first started to foster Tater and he was 43.2 pounds.  Since the with walks everyday and a monitored diet, he is now at 41.6 pounds!

He looks so handsome groomed and smells even better. He does have allergy issues and does still scratch a lot but pet antihistamines do well for him. His shoulder wound is completely healed. His ear infection is under control and he is feeling much better. Tater has adapted well to being kenneled at night and is a pro at the electronic dog door. He gets along very well with our other 2 cocker babies and is so calm and submissive and loving. He would be SUCH a great addition to any family wanting an older, low key loveable little angel boy.”

Please Support C.A.R.E.’s Wine Tasting Fundraiser

Colorado Animal Rescue Express (C.A.R.E.) arranges and provides the safe transportation of dogs and cats from high-kill shelters in Colorado and neighboring states that are going to rescue groups or adoptive homes. C.A.R.E. works with over 110 rescue organizations who commit to taking the homeless animals into foster care for proper assessment and placement. Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue depends on C.A.R.E. to transport Cocker Spaniels from Kansas and Missouri, otherwise we would not be able to bring these animals into rescue.

On Saturday June 5th, C.A.R.E. is holding a Wine Tasting Fundraiser from 4:30 – 6:30 at The Empty Bottle (1886 S. Pearl Street). Please come and share appetizers, wine and great conversation.

THEY NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!!!! On average, they are transporting 200 animals a month to safety and providing an additional 40 wonderful dogs and cats a month with Jake’s Fund payments to help cover spay/neuter and special medical costs.

We hope to see you at our fundraiser. Thank you!!!  If you can’t attend, you can still donate on their website.

Dexter

This Cocker is adorable, loving, fun, house trained (with a reminder), small  (15 lbs est.) But:  He thinks he is trying out for the major leagues.  Balls. Any Ball.  He doesn’t care.  You can throw it 16 inches or 16 feet.  He is still happy. You get busy with dumb things like house work he will move off to find someone else.  He doesn’t fight over the balls as long as there is plenty out to choose from. Or a toybox full he can unload.  Happy happy happy dog.  When he is tired, he drops like a stone and makes one big yawn for the ball to roll out and starts snoring. (nicely).  When there is no one to throw, he can toss and chase the ball himself.  Needs to get some more meat on his ribs but his face will make your life brighter.

Jackson

Let me introduce you to Jackson. Jackson is a very loving and sweet little 7 year old cocker boy, though because of his adorable white beard he looks older than he is. This lively dog loves to be petted and brushed. He loves to chase balls and occasionally squirrels and get his treats. He knows ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘off’ and ‘cookie’. He doesn’t object at all to being groomed. When he came in from the shelter he was very stinky and matted but didn’t mind an immediate bath in the kitchen sink or his foster mom’s ineptness with the clippers. He looks and smells alot better now! Jackson gets along very well with other dogs and was fine with the children he met at a recent adoption event. He is neutered, micro chipped and up to date on all shots. Jackson is poty trained, rarely barks and only chews on his own toys. He has not met the cats yet so we don’t know how he does with them. This little sweetheart should find a new home very quickly- he is just so affectionate and friendly!

Sugar

Sugar is around 5-6 months old and is a mix of Spaniel and some unknown breed.  She is approximately 20-25 pounds.

Sugar was given to some people from out of state that decided they didn’t want her after all.  She had been living outside under a mobile home when she was taken into rescue.  She’s very sweet and gets along with people and other dogs.  She’s a bit shy due to all of the fast changes in her short little life.

Sugar is up to date on her vaccinations and has been treated for parasites.  She will need to be spayed and micro-chipped before going to a new forever home.  She is currently working on her house training skills.  This little girl is going to be a great companion for some lucky adopter!

If you are interested in meeting Sugar, please complete an online adoption application.
