Colorado Animal Rescue Express (C.A.R.E.) arranges and provides the safe transportation of dogs and cats from high-kill shelters in Colorado and neighboring states that are going to rescue groups or adoptive homes. C.A.R.E. works with over 110 rescue organizations who commit to taking the homeless animals into foster care for proper assessment and placement. Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue depends on C.A.R.E. to transport Cocker Spaniels from Kansas and Missouri, otherwise we would not be able to bring these animals into rescue.
On Saturday June 5th, C.A.R.E. is holding a Wine Tasting Fundraiser from 4:30 – 6:30 at The Empty Bottle (1886 S. Pearl Street). Please come and share appetizers, wine and great conversation.
THEY NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!!!! On average, they are transporting 200 animals a month to safety and providing an additional 40 wonderful dogs and cats a month with Jake’s Fund payments to help cover spay/neuter and special medical costs.
We hope to see you at our fundraiser. Thank you!!! If you can’t attend, you can still donate on their website.

This Cocker is adorable, loving, fun, house trained (with a reminder), small (15 lbs est.) But: He thinks he is trying out for the major leagues. Balls. Any Ball. He doesn’t care. You can throw it 16 inches or 16 feet. He is still happy. You get busy with dumb things like house work he will move off to find someone else. He doesn’t fight over the balls as long as there is plenty out to choose from. Or a toybox full he can unload. Happy happy happy dog. When he is tired, he drops like a stone and makes one big yawn for the ball to roll out and starts snoring. (nicely). When there is no one to throw, he can toss and chase the ball himself. Needs to get some more meat on his ribs but his face will make your life brighter.

Very Handsome
Let me introduce you to Jackson. Jackson is a very loving and sweet little 7 year old cocker boy, though because of his adorable white beard he looks older than he is. This lively dog loves to be petted and brushed. He loves to chase balls and occasionally squirrels and get his treats. He knows ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘off’ and ‘cookie’. He doesn’t object at all to being groomed. When he came in from the shelter he was very stinky and matted but didn’t mind an immediate bath in the kitchen sink or his foster mom’s ineptness with the clippers. He looks and smells alot better now! Jackson gets along very well with other dogs and was fine with the children he met at a recent adoption event. He is neutered, micro chipped and up to date on all shots. Jackson is poty trained, rarely barks and only chews on his own toys. He has not met the cats yet so we don’t know how he does with them. This little sweetheart should find a new home very quickly- he is just so affectionate and friendly!

Sugar is around 5-6 months old and is a mix of Spaniel and some unknown breed. She is approximately 20-25 pounds.
Sugar was given to some people from out of state that decided they didn’t want her after all. She had been living outside under a mobile home when she was taken into rescue. She’s very sweet and gets along with people and other dogs. She’s a bit shy due to all of the fast changes in her short little life.
Sugar is up to date on her vaccinations and has been treated for parasites. She will need to be spayed and micro-chipped before going to a new forever home. She is currently working on her house training skills. This little girl is going to be a great companion for some lucky adopter!

Chelsea with Larry and Mary
Travi, a former puppy mill dog was painfully shy and fearful when she arrived in Denver about a month ago. At her first Petco adoption event, this beauty spent the majority of the as far away from people as possible and faced the opposite direction so she wouldn’t have to look at anyone. Three weeks later she was at another Petco adoption event when she found Mary who cuddled her on her lap for quite some time. (Little did we know that Mary and Larry were there to inspect our volunteers to see what kind of a rescue we ran! We passed their test!!) Mary decided she would foster-to-adopt this shy girl. The first week was challenging with Travi being very fearful of the doors and not wanting her front feet to be touched, but she won Mary’s heart when she joined her in bed one night. Larry decided Travi’s new name should be Chelsea after the English soccer team; he even bought her a blue soccer jersey to wear when he takes her to the nearby soccer park! Chelsea is slowly becoming comfortable around her new parents who are doting on her just as she deserves. When we left their home, they were discussing sweaters and booties for Chelsea to wear when it snows! We think Chelsea picked a great fur-ever home.

Cadmium came to us from Kansas where he was part of a seizure of puppy mill dogs. He got his name at the vet clinic in Kansas that took care of him before he came into rescue, so he’s isn’t really responding to it yet. His new owner will be able to change it if they choose to do so.
Cadmium is around one year old. He’s very shy and not quite sure how to handle this new-found freedom. He’s white and cream in color. He’s very affectionate does not like to be crated. He is also neutered and up to date on all of his vaccinations. Due to his shyness and his past history, he would probably do better in a home with a stay-at-home parent, preferably without small children. He will need patient owners with a more quiet environment in order to gain confidence and feel secure. He’s extremely inquisitive and will need to be watched to make sure he doesn’t play with items that he should not have.
If you are interested in meeting Cadmium please fill out our online application form.

Scout is a three-month-old Cocker Spaniel mix. We’re not sure of his mix, but we think he has some Dachshund features. He has a longer face and body than that of a Cocker Spaniel, plus his tail was not docked. Currently, he weighs a whopping six pounds!
His foster mom tells us that this little guy is easy to work with. He already comes to his name, knows “sit” and “go potty”. He is a typical puppy in that he has two speeds, full-out or sleeping! He’s at that stage where he likes to shred papers and pull on pant legs, but he responds to “no” really well. He gets along well with other dogs, cats and children.
Scout is up to date on the vaccinations that he can have at his age. Due to his age, he is not yet neutered. Consequently, it will be up to whoever adopts this little guy to have him neutered in the forseeable future. A Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue volunteer will discuss policies regarding intact dogs to all interested applicants.
If you are interested in meeting this adorable little boy, please complete an adoption application at www.rockymountaincockerrescue.org/adoption-info/.

Annie and Santa at Tagawa Gardens
Annie is an unknown mix breed that came to rescue as a Cocker mix from a shelter in Bennett, CO, where she was picked up as a stray. We estimate her age to be around 7-8 years old. We’re unsure of her mix, but her face reminds us of Chihuahua, although there could be some Beagle or Daschund in there, too. She has been spayed and is up to date on all of her vaccinations. She is a very healthy, active, and affectionate little girl.
Annie is very intelligent and loves human attention. She loves toys and will play tug and fetch with you as long as you are willing. She gets along well with other dogs and cats. She has not been around children while in foster care, but she has dealt very well with both children and adults in public settings. She is very calm, sweet, and loving, and enjoys going on walks and investigating her fenced back yard. She is completely housebroken. She has not been crated and has proven to be trustworthy when left free to roam the house when no one is at home.
This wonderful girl will make someone a great companion. If you can find it in your heart to give her a forever home, please fill out one of our online adoption applications.
