Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue

Molly

Molly is a seven year old solid black female that currently lives in New Mexico. She is an owner surrender and would like very much to retire to the beautiful mountains of Colorado! She tells us that in her perfect new home, she would be the “only” dog and that there would be no other distractions like kids or cats. She says that she’s very nervous about the other dogs in her current home trying to take her food and her toys, not to mention the attention that she wants from her owner!

Molly is a sweet, submissive little girl. When she was younger, she had bladder stones and had to have surgery to remove them. Now she’s on a prescription diet to make sure this situation does not recur. Her owner says that she occasionally has accidents in the home, but when they go out of town and leave her with friends, she never soils their house, so they believe its the stress of her current home causing this behavior. She is spayed, and up to date on her vaccinations. She knows several commands such as sit, stay, come, and go to bed, which means go to her crate! She likes to go on walks, but gets excited and pulls a bit on the lead.

If you are interested in giving Molly a new forever home, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Butterscotch’s Happy Tale

Chad, Tara and Astyn (formerly Butterscotch)

Butterscotch is one of those lucky rescue dogs that never made it onto the RMCR Web site.  On the day that she was surrendered by her former owners, she went to an adoption event in Colorado Springs.  Chad and Tara happened to walk by and noticed her.  After talking it over, they decided that they would like to give her a new home.  They submitted an application and after it was processed, they welcomed her into their home and are now calling her Astyn.  Tara wrote to say that she fits right in to the home and that she really wanted to play with the resident cat.  At first, the cat wasn’t so crazy about having a canine sister, she was getting braver and we assume that by now they’re good pals!

Marble

Marble is currently being considered for adoption by his foster family!

Marble is a two year old parti-colored male. He is an owner surrender and is not currently in the Denver metro area.   The family is having trouble financially and wants to find a new home for him.  There is also a personality issue between him and the family’s other older dog.

As you can see, Marble has a droopy eye.  The rescue will have it checked out by our vet.  We will also make sure he is up to date on his vaccinations and that he is micro-shipped.  He is house trained, but is being kept out of doors during the day and crated inside at night.  He is home trained, knows several commands and is good on the lead.

If you are interested in meeting Marble, please make sure you have completed an online adoption application.

Jack and Lucy

Jack and Lucy are currently being considered for adoption by their foster family!

Jack and Lucy are six year old buff Cocker Spaniel siblings that are looking for a new home. They are both altered and are up to date on their vaccinations.

Their family is suffering from the woes of the current economy and have had to move into a rental unit where Jack and Lucy cannot stay indoors and they are indoor dogs. The family has three active kids who are in and out of the house constantly, so the dogs are either coming in or escaping the yard. The family feels that it’s unfair to keep them in this environment and want a better home for them.  We’d like to have them in a new home before the oncoming winter weather.

They are both house trained (but have been known to have the occasional accident) and have been to obedience training. They are good around the other kids, but haven’t been properly socialized around other dogs, so they aren’t sure how they would behave. Lucy also tends to be a bit timid around men.

If you are interested in meeting this pair, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Charley

Meet Charley!  He’s around eight years old , while with black markings, and is looking for a new home because his owners are relocating and cannot take him along.  Shhh! – don’t tell his owners, but Charley told us he likes Colorado anyway.

Charley is around 40 pounds, is house trained and crate trained. He has a lot of energy and sticks close to home. Over the years he has become afraid of thunder but is happy to wait out the storm in his crate. He’s great with kids, cats and other dogs.. He is well trained as he has had both obedience and home training. Although he has been taught to perform well on a lead, he hasn’t been walked in awhile, so his new owners would need to work with him to remind him of these skills. He is completely up to date on his vaccinations (rabies due in 2013).

If you are interested in meeting Charely, please make sure you have completed an online adoption form.

Riley

Riley is approximately three years old and he is a buff colored male Cocker Spaniel.  He is an owner surrender.

Riley’s owner has found that he can’t spend enough time with him and he wants to find a home for Riley where he will get more attention and play-time.  He’s quite small – less than twenty pounds and gets along with dogs and cats that have come to visit, plus he’s been good around kids.  RMCR will ensure that he is up to date on his vaccinations and that he is microchipped for his new owner.  He is house trained, but has the occasional accident, so his new owner will need to reinforce his house training with frequent, regular trips outside and lots of praise when he gets it right.  He’s had problems with skin allergies, but generally a good kibble with a novel protein such as fish, venison or duck will help with that issue.  He knows some basic commands and is eager to please.

If you are interested in meeting Riley, please complete an online adoption application.

Jack Sprat

No, you’re eyes are not deceiving you!  Jack Sprat is not a Cocker Spaniel, but he does belong to an RMCR volunteer, so we offered to help.  She rescued him from a shelter to save him from euthanasia and is looking for a permanent home for him.  Here’s what she has to say about him:

Jack Sprat is a 5-6 year old Jack Russell Terrier Mix that loves other dogs that are medium sized and smaller. I first met him in a shelter when he was emaciated and had no hair on his body. He is now fully healthy with a lustrous coat, is up-to-date on his shots, is neutered, microchipped, has been given a full blood workup, and is already on hearworm meds. He can show fear when meeting new people, which he demonstrates through barking. When I introduce him, I have the person totally ignore him and wait until he comes to them to investigate, which he does right away. He does not do well with children or cats. He goes all night, in bed under the covers, without needing to go out. However, if he needs out (usually every three hours when you are home with him) he merely stands by the door.    Jack is quite energetic at times, but then he flops down and snoozes for a couple of hours afterward. Once Jack is your friend, he will be loyal and devoted, to the point of adoration, from then onward. I have never known a dog who loves his human more.

If you are interested in meeting Jack, please complete one of our online adoption applications.  Just overlook where it says “Cocker Spaniel” and read it instead as “Jack Russell Terrier Mix”!  Jack’s adoption fee will be substatnially reduced from our regular adoption rates, so don’t let that scare you off!  We simply want him to find a good home!

Buddy (9 year old buff)

Buddy is a nine year old neutered buff  male Cocker Spaniel who recently lost his owner.  They had been together since Buddy was a puppy.  He is now living with his owner’s sister but isn’t getting along with the other dogs in the family.  She is hoping that we can help find a home where Buddy can be the only dog in the home.  Buddy gets along with the other dogs in the dog park, but he doesn’t want to share affection with other dogs in the home.

Buddy has had knee surgery and it bothers him sometimes, but rest seens to help.  He also suffers occasionally from allergies.  Otherwise, he’s healthy.  Buddy is house trained and can be trusted to be left inside unsupervised.  He knows basic commands.  He is up to date on his vaccinations (due Spring 2012).  He loves to go to the dog park and play fetch.

Cocker Spaniels typically have a life span of 15-16 years, so Buddy has a long life ahead of him.  If you love seniors like we do and would be willing to give Buddy a new home, he would be a great companion.

If you are interested in meeting Buddy, please make sure you have  completed an online adoption application.

Toby

Toby is a three and one-half year old Cocker Spaniel/Cavalier King Charles mix who is being surrendered by his owner.  They have a seven-month old child that is becoming more mobile and Toby is a bit jealous, although he gets along well with the older children and another dog in the house.  Toby is neutered, is house trained (although he has a rare occasional accident in the house) and is up to date on his vaccinations (due February 2012).

Toby knows basic commands, knows how to use his doggy door, is very playful and loves his squeaky balls and his bones.  He would be a wonderful addition to a home with older kids and other dogs.  We’re not sure about cats.  Toby has small siezures that have been diagnosed as not serious during which he seems to be snapping at flies.  These seizures are not harmful to him or anyone else, however a potential adopter would want to share this information with their vet so that it can be watched in the future.

If you are interested in meeting Toby, please make sure you have completed an online adoption application.

Maggie (6 year old white/tan)

Meet Maggie!  She is a six year old buff and white female Cocker Spaniel from Colorado Springs.  Her mom is having to relocate and can’t take Maggie with her, so she’s looking for a new home.

Maggie is spayed and is up to date on her vaccines (Rabies due 01/12 and others 12/11).  Maggie is prone to ear infections, but her current diet seems to be helping keep those under control.  She gets along well with other dogs and has proven to be trusted alone in the home, roaming freely for extended periods of time.  She is house trained, but not crate trained.  She’s good with children as long as they don’t pull on her ears.  She knows basic commands and will shake or give you a high five.

If you are interested in meeting Maggie, please make sure you’ve completed an onlne adoption applcation.
