Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue

Dread Pirate Roberts

Dread Pirate Roberts – DPR for short – is coming to us from the Glenwood Springs animal shelter.  He’s about a year old and was tormented by neighborhood children at his former home.  Consequently, he’s terrified of kids, so he’s looking for a quiet home with adults.  He’s one year old, up to date on his vaccinations and microchipped.  He’s not quite sure how to play.  He can be timid and unsure of new things and people but warms up quickly and is very wiggly and happy.
He loves affection and one on one time, shows no food or resource guarding and walks well on leash and knows sit (he just isn’t very consistent about it!).

If you are interested in meeting DPR, please fill out an online adoption application.  As soon as he gets to Denver, we’ll make arrangements for you to meet him.

Sammy

Sammy is around two years old.  He is a very handsome, gentle Cocker, thoughtful and well behaved. He is somewhat smaller in size than most and has a very attractive coat.  He has a kind of Huck Finn personality.  He can trick you into putting down the book and let him curl up in your lap.  He lays very still. Just being near a welcoming person gives him sighs of contentment.  He loves to play with other dogs. Should be good with loder kids but we’re unsure about cats.  He is so accommodating he could be brought around.   House training needs to be reinforced to continue his good habits.  Will sleep in crate without fuss.  If you want a companion to go with you through life with laughter and love, look no further.

Sammy will be up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and microchipped before being adopted.  If you are interested in meeting him, please complete an online adoption application.

Ace

Ace has the heart and muscles of a Lab but the devotion of a Cocker.  Mouth open and romping across the floor, then he comes often to lay his head on your knee, waiting, just waiting for you to stroke his head.  He has discovered affection and is a little awkward.  There can’t be too much.  He has had a curious problem with house training.  It seems he is afraid to step off of cement into the grass.  Once you haul him in, he relaxes a bit, then with patience he takes care of business.  Our guess is he was previously put in a yard with electric underground barriers and he exhibits great fear of stepping over the edge of lawn. Such a gentle happy dog, that would have been very frightening and confusing.  He is is still reluctant and cautious but learning more and more that it is a good thing, not bad.  A move to a new home will require the new owner to reinforce his confidence.   He likes to bark at cats so probably not a good match.  He would be very good with school age children to help him run off his energy and throw balls.  He is heavy enough to knock a small child over with love, so best he not go to a home with toddlers.  Got any 7 year old boys driving you crazy?  Ace is your solution.

Ace is 2-3 years old, up to date on his vaccinations, is neutered and microchipped.  If you are interested in meeting him, please complete an online adoption application.

Bailey

Hurry!  This the sweetest, funniest, cuddliest dog!!!!   If you want the good humor and love of a puppy that is housebroken and friendly with other pets and people, Bailey is your dog.  He is Peter Pan at his best.  He plays with balls and stuffed toys with happy energy and sleeps as if he turned off a switch.   His heart is in anything he does.  With long agile legs, he often walks across the floor on his back feet, head held high with the grace of Fred Astaire.  His tail is long and very fancy.  Like a boa, It swings and curls up and wags furiously.  He is definitely one of a kind and you’ll wish that wasn’t so because so many people will want one just like him as you introduce him to your friends.  He is Just barely house broken so you will have to follow through and if you want, He happily sleeps in a crate, except you will want to be near him constantly!  Hard not to spoil this one!   We recommend a home without toddlers as Bailey tends to jump up for affection and may knock them down.  He’s great with kids eight and older.

Bailey is up to date on his vaccinations and is microchipped.  If you are interested in meeting Bailey, please complete an online adoption application.

Morgan

This is Morgan, he is a happy puppy – bouncy and curious. Once or twice a day, he THROWS himself on your lap and holds really still. You’re supposed to know that he is allowing you time to pet him before he goes off to his next adventure – very generous of him and his crowded schedule. When he sleeps, he SLEEPS; when he plays, he PLAYS; when he sleeps, he SLEEPS! When he chews his toys, he’s very dedicated, so get tough toys! He loves to chase flying insects and most of the time, he catches them. When he finishes an activity, he flops down to contemplate what’s next.

Morgan is a very energetic puppy. Although he’s not been around children, perhaps school-age kids could match his energy. We wouldn’t recommend a home with cats. He is very self-confident, so he would love to learn fancy tricks, If you want a friend and companion, look no farther!

Morgan is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, and is micro-chipped.

If you are interested in Morgan, please complete an online adoption application.

Cocoa

Introducing Cocoa–a sweet chocolate colored Cocker boy of around 4-5 years. He is sedate and affectionate, calm and loving. He chews nothing but his food and toys, and loves having his tummy scratched. Cocoa gets along well with other dogs, is crate trained, completely housebroken and up to date on all his shots. He has been neutered and microchipped. Coca know sit, come, off, and cookie! He hasn’t been to an adoption event yet so we don’t know how he is with children, but he has done very well with visitors to his foster home–other than trying to lick them to death!  Cocoa has some really droopy eyelids. We are having them checked out by our veterinarian.

If you are interested in Cocoa, please complete an online adoption application.

Marley

Marley is a very affectionate and lively little one and a half year old boy. He loves chasing balls and squirrels and snuggling on laps. He knows sit, off, move, and come–and of course, cookie! He plays very well with the other dogs, shows no resource guarding behavior, is completely house trained and crate trained, and has gotten along very well with the adults and children who have petted him at rescue events. Like many dogs, he loves to shred tissues, so we keep the box off the floor! He has all his vaccinations, is neutered and microchipped, and would love to shower you with puppy kisses in his forever home.

Malcolm

Malcolm is the good ol’ boy with the heart of gold.  He kinda ambles when he walks, so nonchalant. He will set and think a spell before coming over to shyly put his head near your knee so if you are inclined to pet him, he’ll be nearby.  Foster Mom got him in her lap once and she thought he was going to faint with joy.  But, he doesn’t take anything for granted, so he won’t push his luck.  You have to let him know “it’s OK”.

He uses the pet door and is good on the leash. His main goal in life is to please someone with hands to pet and arms to hug.  He should be fine with children and maybe with cats, but his goal and dream is to have a human of his own.

Malcolm is a year and a half old.  We feel that he is a mix, but are unsure of his pedigree.  He was surrendered by his owner due to financial hardship.   He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all of his vaccinations.  If you are interested in meeting Malcolm, please complete an online adoption application.

Woody

Woody is one of our senior rescues. We don’t know his actual age, but we’re estimating him to be in the neighborhood of around 10 years old.

Woody came to us with several issues including a luxating cataract, facial paralysis, dermatitis, and chronic ear infections. He has had his ears and teeth cleaned. Being an older gentleman, he has a hard time hearing and seeing. We’re hoping that a wheat-free diet will help maintain his ear health and also help with his skin condition. Although his facial paralysis is permanent it is cosmetic only and has no negative impacts on Woody. This was most likely was caused by ear infections that were not properly treated.  He is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and house trained.  He gets along with kids, other dogs, and we assume cats.

With that being said, he’s still a loving fellow that hopes someone will want to give him a home where he can live the rest of his live in comfortable security. He gets along with his foster family’s other dog and follows him around. He is even sleeping in the teenage daughter’s bed. Woody’s favorite things to do are to go on a walk, ride in the car, chew on a bone, and sleep.

Since Cocker Spaniels have been known to live up to 17 years, Woody still has several years to go. If you are that special person that would like to give him a home for his golden years, please let us know. We’d love to introduce you to him.

You can fill out one of our online adoption applications if you are interested in Woody.

Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown is approximately seven years old and is being surrendered by his owner due to a change in family dynamics.

Charlie’s owners have had him since he was a puppy. He is a wonderful dog in almost every respect but he does not like children. They just had our first child one year ago and feel that they cannot allow them to be together without worrying that he might act aggressively towards her now that she has become more mobile. Charlie loves to give and get attention and is generally very sweet. He is smart, has had obedience training and is completely housebroken.

Charlie is up to date on all of his vaccination and is neutered.  He is currently on a small dose of medication due to a recent thyroid issue and is responding well.  Charlie is crate trained, but prefers not to be crated when his people are home, although he will occasionally go into his kennel to sleep.  He has been known to be protective of his food.  He likes to play with his toys, especially his rubber chicken and squeaky soccer ball.  He likes to nap on the couch and go to the dog park.

If you are interested in meeting Charlie, please complete an online adoption application.
