Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue

Abby

Abby is a ten year old owner surrender in the Denver metro area that is looking for  a new home.  Changes in family dynamics, financial issues and allergies are forcing the family to look for  a new home for this cutie in her senior years.

Abby is spayed, crate trained, house trained, and leash trained.  The rescue will ensure that she is up to date on her vaccinations and will microchip her for you.  She has had obedience and home training and knows several commands.   Abby would make a great companion for a family without young children.

If you are interested in meeting Abby, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Harley

Harley Henry Allen is an nine year old tan and white parti-colored male Cocker Spaniel. His owner is surrendering him due to health reasons and hopes that someone will give Harley the home he deserves!

Harley loves to run and, before his owner got sick, would go for walks with him every day. They went fishing together and even went hunting. Because of his hunting experience, he’s not scared of loud noises like firecrackers or thunder! He’s great with kids and other pets. He has been known to jump short fences, so his new owner will need to have at least a 6 foot fence. He’s not a big barker, but will join in if other dogs get him going. He’s good with the groomer, is neutered, house trained and up to date on his vaccinations.

If you would like to meet Harley, please complete an online adoption application.

Buffy

Buffy has several applications in progress.  You may still submit an application with the understanding that he may not be available.

This precious little one year old came to us from Trinidad CO where he was surrendered to an animal control officer.  He was terrified to come out of his crate when he arrived in Denver, but was eventually coaxed out with a tasty hot dog!  Soon he was rolling over for tummy rubs as he traveled to his foster mom’s house.

Buffy is mostly white with a few tan spots and some freckles on his adorable nose.  He has perfect Cocker confirmations and seems to be house trained.  His foster mom said that so far there have been no accidents.  He gets along well with the two alpha females in the foster home and with the resident cat.  We can’t think of any reason he wouldn’t be the perfect addition to any home.

He is up to date on his vaccinations and is scheduled to be neutered shortly.  While he’s under anesthesia, we’ll take the opportunity to have the tartar that has accumulated on his teeth taken off.  Then we will microchip him for his future owner.

If you are interested in meeting this wonderful guy, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Buddy

Howdy! My name is Buddy and I’m 7 years young with a soul of pure joy. I know what you’re thinking – “Oh geesh! Another dog named Buddy.” I know, I know. But if you met me, you’d understand. I’m just a good ol’ boy. If a man is humble and well thought of, he can be referred to as a “good old boy”, regardless of his age. That’s me! I’m loyal, loving, calm and definitely well thought of. I want nothing more in this life than to be your best friend.

So now you’re wondering, how does a seemingly perfect, mellow fellow like myself end up in rescue? It’s not a story I like to tell. I was a happy guy, spending my days in the lap of my former pop. We had quite a family with our dad, my brother dog, two cats and me. Well, my dad was elderly and his days were numbered. When he passed, the four of us were brought to a shelter. We were all lucky and were rescued by some really great places. They would like to have kept us together, but we were just happy to find safe places to go to mourn the loss of our lives as we knew them and discover all the things this world still has to offer us.

So I’m here in Denver now and I’m waiting for a family who has been searching for their perfect Buddy. I get along with all 4-legged creatures and am a very gentle boy. I’ll fit in with most lifestyles. I’m the best at being a lap dog, but don’t let that fool you. I love going on walks and runs and playing in the yard with my people. I know my basic commands and am an excellent listener – I only want to make you happy. I am also house-trained and do really well on a leash. I do have one requirement of my new family. It is really important that I be able to sleep with you. At the foot of the bed would be fine, as long as I have just a little room. I just want to make sure we are safe together. So what do you say? Are you ready for the best Buddy you ever had? Please fill out an application for me today – I’m so excited to meet my new family!

Buddy is a Cocker mix, neutered and up to date on all vaccinations.  He is also microchipped.  If you are interested in meeting Buddy, please make sure to complete an online adoption application.

Jojo

My name is JoJo and I am a seven year old white and tan neutered male Cocker Spaniel. While I am a sweet dog, I have had a tough time last summer. I was in a city shelter for many months and wasn’t taken care of very well. I came out with bad skin issues, terribly matted hair and was really unsure of people. I also was terribly stiff from spending too much time in a small enclosure.

Since I have been with my foster family, I am doing much better. I got a hair cut, my skin is MUCH better, my hair is soft and I am starting to trust people again. I love to have my foster dad’s attention. I cuddle and love to be petted. I am not a big kisser, but you can tell from the way I look at you I love you. I am even starting to get some of the flexibility back as my fosters have had me on a diet with a lot of glucosamine.

I am good with other dogs, although I don’t like someone trying to dominate me. I would probably be better around adults as I do have a tendency to be a bit nippy when I don’t like what is going on. I don’t like having my eyes cleaned and I HATE getting groomed!! My Foster dad had to be there the entire time comforting and speaking softly to me. Maybe I’ll get used to it!

Jojo is up to date on his vaccinations and is microchipped. If you are interested in meeting him, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Aspen

Aspen has a pending adoption application!  You can still apply with the understanding that she may not be available.

This little cutie’s name is Aspen.  She’s a Cockapoo and is around four and a half years old and weighs around 20 pounds.  She is an owner surrender due to the fact that there have been changes in family dynamics and she’s not getting the attention she deserves.

Her owner thinks she would be best with a couple or single person who can devote their undivided love and time to her.  She is a sweet gentle dog, in excellent health, is house trained, crate trained, has lots of energy, loves walks, and is good with other dogs and children.  She is very social, wags her tail constantly, does well at the kennel and loves to ride in car.  She is spayed, and up to date on her vaccinations until March of 2012.  She is quite athletic and loves to run in the back yard.

If you are interested in meeting Aspen, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Guthrie

Guthrie has pending adoption applications!  You can still apply with the understanding that he may not be available.

My foster parents call me Guthrie the Wonder Dog. They told me that wonder means, “A feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, or inexplicable.” You see, when they first met me, I had no story to tell them so they wondered what kind of boy I would be. All they knew was that I ended up in a Salt Lake City shelter completely matted and very afraid. They were surprised after only one night with them, the fear was gone. They were overcome with a feeling of wonder as a beautiful soul came back to life in me.

You couldn’t ask for a better dog to join your family, really. I am loving and playful. I am young and handsome. I get along with all other four-legged friends whether feline or canine. Like most young and active pups, I probably shouldn’t be in a home with very young children quite yet, but I think I would enjoy playing with older kids. I love to play fetch and with balls in general. I really enjoy my toys and know the difference between your treasures and my own. Walks and playing outdoors are my favorite. Being outside with my people is the best time of day (well, besides meal time)! I am a good boy and I listen well. I’m very house-trained and know a few basic commands. My foster parents predict I will know more by the time you get me (I’m very smart, too!).

Although I can’t tell you about my past, it has had an impact on me. While I am a happy boy when I am with my family, I can still get scared around strangers (especially at the doctor’s office!). I really need to find a loving family that can help me feel secure for the rest of my life. I would do best in a home that has someone who knows how to be the pack leader and can show me the ropes in trusting all humankind again.

There’s this guy that shares my name. You may have heard of him – Woody Guthrie? Well, he said this really great thing that rings true to me. “All at once, no matter what has happened to you, you are building a brand new world again, based and built on the mistakes, the wreck, the hard luck and trouble of the old one.” I’ve definitely had some hard luck in my short life, but I know it was all just to get me here to this rescue so I could meet you. While I can’t tell you much about my past, I know I’m ready to start building my brand new world with a family that will love me forever. Are you ready to fill your life with some wonder? Then, hurry and fill out an online adoption application for Guthrie the Wonder Dog!

Guthrie is around two years old, up to date on his vaccinations, is neutered and will be microchipped for his new owner!

Rusty

Rusty has an active adoption application!

Rusty is another Kansas native that is here in Denver to find a new home.  He’s around four years old and is reddish colored with white markings.  He was a stray and his family chose not to pay the fines and veterinary fees, so he was sent to RMCR.

Rusty is neutered and up to date on all of his vaccinations.  He’s a friendly little guy.  He seems to be completely house trained and does well on a lead.  Rusty is a very good escape artist, so anyone wishing to adopt him should have a very high and secure fence and be monitored when left outdoors alone.  He gets along very well with other dogs, but should not be placed in a home with cats.  He seems fine with children as young as six.  RMCR will microchip Rusty for his new owners.

If  you are interested in Rusty, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Chloe

Chloe has a pending adoption application.  You can still apply with the understanding that she may not be available.

Announcing, Chloe, 4 yr old tri color from KS. Chloe is about 22-24 lbs and very fit.
She is very shy and timid, being a mill mama kept her secluded from all that is a puppy and dog.
She knows very few commands as yet, but we are working on that.
She is learning what toys are, treats and playing. We are working on her people skills as she is quite nervous around them.
She does not seem to be a barker as originally thought nor a piddler.
She does very well with other dogs, shows no agressions,  is house and crate trained. We do not know at this time of her disposition around cats. She is working on leash training and is still wary of leashes.

Chloe is doing well getting a bit more socialized, but has quite a way to go.
She has finally got the hang of the electronic dog door and she is now eating all of her food and drinking plenty of water.
She is still very spooked with people moving around but is trying to come closer each time her foster Mom sits still and calls her name.
She finally accepting treats from hand. And her lil’wiggle tail does go prety fast when her and her foster sister “play”. She is not sure of the toys other than she likes herding them all into one room for safe keeping!!

She is a quiet, sweet and very timid little girl who needs time and patience with her to learn what life can be like.
She will be an Amazing family member for some lucky family one day soon.
Oh and did we mention, she is beautiful!!
All immunizations are up to date and she is micro-chipped.

May

May has an adoption application pending!

Meet May!  In the couple weeks she has been in foster care, this two-to-three year old has seemed to adjust pretty quickly. She is very sweet and eager to please her people. She gets along well with other dogs and she doesn’t seem to care about cats once she knows they are part of the house. She is very attentive and responds to every sound in the house but will settle down when the house is calm. She is not a big barker but will let out a yap if she hears something out of the ordinary in the middle of the night. She is somewhat crate trained, meaning she will not go in on command but she will go in and stay in with very little protest. At night she sleeps with another dog in a confined area, and only whines a little at first and then quiets down until morning.

She seems to be house trained but her people need to pay attention to her actions when she is wanting to go out or she will have an accident near the door. May walks well on a leash so long as you don’t give her too much lead. She will walk beside you only pulling a bit when she smells something interesting. She seems to have a healthy appetite but it seems she was spoiled previously with people food.  She doesn’t like to eat dry food by itself, so her fosters have had to mix in wet food in order for her to eat which has worked quite well. She is starting to learn commands but is definitely determined to find her own way of doing things. We have not seen her around children, so a home without toddlers is probably best. Overall she is a good dog that needs a good home with strong pack leaders and she will be happy.

May is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations.  She will be microchipped for her new owner.  She’s quite small at only around 20 pounds or so.

If you are interested in meeting May, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.
