Kodiak is an eight year old neutered male Cocker Spaniel that was dropped off at the shelter because his owners “didn’t want him anymore”.  He is a sweet dog who gets along with other dogs. He can be a little bossy at times, but isn’t a classic alpha. He gets along with people, although he does seem to be more comfortable around women. He is pretty good with house training, although he has had a couple of accidents, so he will need some reinforcement in his house training skills.

We agree that Goodfellow is an odd name for a dog!  That’s why his foster parents call him Henry.  When you adopt him, you can call him whatever you want, but we’ll keep Goodfellow on the paperwork until he gets to your house!

He is around two years old and has a full tail.  He came to us from Salt Lake City where he’d ended up in a local animal shelter.  He has a beautiful shiny black coat and gorgeous white teeth.  You have to see him to appreciate his beauty – photos of black dogs do not always do them justice and that’s the case here!  He came to us with two cherry eyes which have been repaired.  His foster mom is working to house train him and he’s doing well but will probably require continued reinforcement.  He’s an active little boy that likes to go for walks and rides in the car.  He gets along well with other dogs and children, but we don’t know about cats.  He’s up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped.

Please welcome Gabriel!

You can see that he has indeed been rescued and is once again a beautiful boy.  He had to have some surgeries to remove quite a few teeth, cherry eyes fixed and a neuter.  He also had all of that matted hair cut off.  He is much happier now that those abcessed teeth have been removed.  He is still experiencing some tearing in his eyes and may benefit from regular eye drops.

Here is what his foster mom has to say:

He is very sweet and affectionate. Loves to go outside and sniff around in the backyard, and enjoys laying in the sun. He has learned to use the doggie door and loves his freedom. He is cuddly and sweet and has a NON-stop tail/butt wiggle. He loves toys-squeaky, shiny, or soft and furry. He likes to chew on rawhide bones.  

Does occasionally bark/howl when he sees birds or other wildlife animals in trees. Not a huge bark, and usually stops when I tell him to stop. He gets along well with other dogs large and small and has not shown any aggressive behaviors around people or animals. He has not been around children yet.  

Likes his food, and finishes his half cup portions in one sitting. He is getting one cup total per day. He sits before getting treats and takes treats very gently. He is a gentle little guy all around. We are working on the weight loss. He is at 35 lbs now. He likes to sleep on the couch or the bed, so we are working on getting him comfortable enough to sleep in a dog bed or on a blanket on the floor. He does not go into his crate at all and doesn’t seem to care for it. He is good roaming free when we are gone from the house, no accidents, no chewing, no getting into the garbage.  

Great dog! Follows me around the house, likes car rides and likes walks.

Sadie is a one and one-half year old Cocker mix that came to us from New Mexico.  She is a very sweet, loving dog that just says “love me” when she looks at you with those beautiful eyes. She is quite obedient, walks well on a leash, comes immediately when you call her name and is not food aggressive, but she does get so excited when it comes to treats that she can hardly contain herself. She was housetrained when we got her and now she is a pro at the doggy door as well. While she is slightly timid, she is quite friendly with everyone she meets and gets along well with her housemates, Blackjack and Pepper (though Pepper wasn’t the happiest when she arrived, she’s gotten used to and accepts her now). However, Sadie never batted a lash if Pepper growled at her to get off the same couch, she just jumped off and sat on the floor nearby. She is quite playful and likes chasing after plastic balls, tennis ones too except that she then chews those right up.

Sadie has a full tail and is white with black merle markings.  She is up to date on all vaccinations and is spayed.  RMCR will microchip her for you.

 Hi!  My name is Prince.  That’s just what I am – a Prince.  This is the second time I’ve been at Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue and I’m looking for someone that will love me for the rest of my life.  See, this time I’m back because my owner had some family difficulties and understood that I wasn’t getting the attention that I deserved!  I’m in a wonderful foster home right now with some other fun dogs, but I really want a home of my own.

I love kids and I love to play!  I’ll chase the ball if you throw it.  If you’re busy, I can even toss it myself and chase after it.  I’m really no problem at all.  I’m a love bug too!  I like to sit next to you and give you lots of attention and puppy kisses!  I’ve had a few problems with my ears and with the skin on my tummy, but they think they’ve got that under control.  If you feed me good food and clean my ears regularly, I promise not to be a problem!   So, please call soon!  I’ll be waiting to meet you.

Hi there, my name is Maxwell. You may not know it yet, but you’ve been waiting your whole life to find a dog like me. I’m a young, handsome guy who’s on the small side – only three years old and barely weighing in at 20 pounds. You know what that means? I’m the perfect size for your lap, which, if I had it my way, is where I would spend most of my time. I arrived in Denver on a transport from Kansas. It was a long ride, but I hear folks in Colorado are real nice and I’m hoping I might get a chance at a life where I’m safe and loved forever.

My foster family doesn’t really know how I’ve gotten this far in life without finding a family who wouldn’t dream of parting with me. First of all, they tell me I’m cute as a button with my fabulous markings, soft coat and tiny stature (not to mention eyes that will melt your heart). Secondly, I’m about as sweet as they come. I love to cuddle and sit in laps and have my belly rubbed. It is my purpose in life to love you unconditionally. Third, I’m still full of puppy spunk without the hassle of needing to be trained. Playing ball is probably the most fun thing in the world, don’t you think? If you don’t have a ball, I love to wrestle and play with my people – it’s such a good time! Walks are good, too. My foster parents says I still need some work on my walking manners, but they say for a pup that probably hasn’t had any experience, I’m learning pretty darn fast. I would never dream of doing my outside business in the house and I certainly know not to destroy my home as well. I’m not a barker (for a while, my foster mom wondered if I even had a voice!) and I mind very well. Disappointing you probably upsets me more than it does you. I know what “no” means and you can bet that if you tell me once, I won’t do it again. All I want is for us to be happy together.

Are you ready for the icing on the cake? I get along with anyone and anything. Big dogs, small dogs, fluffy cats, hairless cats, tiny humans, big humans… You name it, I’ll adapt! So what do you say? Hi, I’m Beatrice, a shiny black Cockapoo with a thin white stripe down my chest and a little white under my chin. I’m supposed to be 9 years old; however, my foster parents think I’m more like 5 years old due to my playful nature and energy level. I prance and dance and wiggle my little tail a lot when I’m happy. I seek out petting and loving from my people. I’m a little shy around strangers, but once I get to know you I’ll follow you everywhere. I sleep in an open crate at night (no need to lock me in) and when my people are not around. They trust me not to make a mess when they are out. I’m a quiet girl who is housetrained and I get along well other other dogs. My previous owners had a noisy, busy household that was a little overwhelming for me. I would prefer a quieter home without young children.

 I had my teeth cleaned recently and I’m microchipped and fully vaccinated.

Oliver is an adult male Cocker Spaniel mix of unknown age that is looking for a new home.  His current owner is member of our military and is preparing to deploy.  He was adopted from the Adams County Animal Shelter only around a year ago. 

Oliver is larger than most Cocker Spaniels, weighing in at a cool 50 pounds.  He has displayed aggressive behavior with the other dogs in the family home, so he would do best as an only pet.  He is protective of his food, so we will not adopt him to families with toddlers and we’re not sure about his behavior around cats.  He is neutered, house trained, and up to date on his rabies vaccination until June of this year.  RMCR will cover vaccinations for potential adopters and will ensure that he is microchipped.

He does well with adults, following his male owner around the house.  He can be trusted to be left alone indoors without threat of destruction.  He would really love to have a quiet home with someone that will play ball with him.  If you would be willing to give Oliver a chance at a forever home, we’d love to introduce you to him.

Kula and Marley are bonded Cockapoos that are looking for a new home.  The kids have grown up and have moved out and the owner is working a lot of hours, so these two are being left alone for longer than she would like.  Also, financial issues are making it hard to keep them.

Kula is a seven year old male black Cockapoo.  Marley is a six year old female black merle Cockapoo.  They would need to be adopted together as they have never been separated.  These two are both house trained.  Both dogs are crate trained but Kula hates to be crated and is usually allowed to roam free within the home with no incidents.  Both enjoy human companionship and enjoy going on walks.  They are both altered and are up to date on their vaccinations until 2013.  They know several trick, including how to shake.  Marley also knows how to give a high-five and understands “wait”.

Meet Zoe!  She is a ten year old spayed black and tan female Cocker Spaniel.  Her family is moving and cannot take her with them.  She secretly said that she prefers the weather in Colorado anyway! 

She gets along well with other dogs, is house trained and leash trained.  She is up to date on her vaccinations and RMCR will make sure she has a microchip.  She’s a 100% indoor dog, but loves to go for walks and be outside with you.  She gets along with children, but as with most dogs her age, we recommend that she not be placed in a home with toddlers.  We’re not sure about cats.
