Riley’s Happy Tale

Elli, Edwin and Riley

Elli and Edwin quickly became adept at caring for a sick dog when they received their first foster dog, Riley. Within just a day or so of arrival, Riley became quite ill with hookworms. After weeks of TLC and vet visits, they couldn’t bear to part from their Cocker Spaniel fur baby and decided to adopt him. Riley is over the hump with his illnesses now and we hope that he lives a very long, healthy and happy life with his new mom and dad! Edwin and Elli have joined the ranks of proud foster failures!

Choco

My name is Choco and I am a two year old male Cocker Spaniel. I came to rescue very fearful, and afraid of being touched. I am very playful now, walk well on a leash, and am happy to say you can now pet me. My nickname is Happy Feet because I am just a happy playful boy.

Choco came to RMCR from another rescue group.  He’s been well cared-for and is beautiful.  He plays great with the other dogs, is fully house-trained and very friendly.  He is shy at first and really doesn’t like to be touched behind his forelegs: he swivels his head sharply as if to bite or nip, but keeps his mouth closed.  For this reason, we will not place Choco in a home with kids under the age of twelve.  We feel that if older kids can be trusted not to grab him there, everything should be fine.  Choco seems to do well around cats as well.  He is also crate trained.

If you are interested in adopting Choco, please fill our online adoption application.

Jasper

Jasper is a very sweet and calm seven year old Cocker boy, though he does like chasing the squirrels on occasion!  He gets along very well with other dogs and cats. He knows sit, down, come, and he’s learning “cookie” very quickly.  Jasper does well on a leash.  He does great in his crate, but hasn’t needed to be crated at all.  He only chews the things he is supposed to, and has shown no resource guarding issues.  He’s a little shy at first but warms up very quickly.  He definitely needs to lose a few pounds.  He seems to be house-broken, though he did piddle three times his first night in his new foster home.  It didn’t seem to be voluntary–it just sort of came out.  Perhaps weight or bladder issues might be in play.  He also has slight limp in the right rear which may be due to just over-exertion: he didn’t object to an examination of his joints or extending them by his foster mom.  As far as we can tell right now, he’s another nearly perfect doggie.

Stryker

Stryker is a beautiful and very sweet, black, American Cocker Spaniel who was found as a stray. He is approximately 7 months old, 20 pounds and just as good as can be. He is playful and energetic, as one would expect from a young dog, but he knows some basic commands and is quite calm for one so young.

Ava and Bella

Ava is a buff and white female puppy that we believe may be an American Cocker Spaniel/Beagle mix. Bella, also a puppy, is her best buddy, but we’re not quite sure what Bella’s breed mix may be at this point. Both girls were believed to be born in November 2008. Their owner surrendered them to our rescue because she moved into an apartment that does not accept dogs. Her grandparents, who are currently caring for both puppies, would like to place them together into a loving, forever home.

Both puppies are crate trained and mostly house trained, although they do have the occasional accident in the house. They both love to snuggle with their people on the couch, play with each other and chew their bones, balls and stuffed animals. With their puppy energy, they make great playmates! When they are napping, they like to cuddle up with each other in a crate. Their owner indicates they do not have any behavioral issues and are learning basic commands.

Both Ava and Bella are spayed and up to date on their vaccinations. Since they are puppies, they should do OK in a home with older children who know how to properly handle dogs. If you would like to adopt these girls, please contact us!

Update on Bella – Bella was adopted, but after being separated from Ava, began showing signs of separation anxiety.  Her new owner was unable to deal with these new behaviors, so she is once again available for adoption.  We feel that she would do best in a home with another dog to keep her company if we are unable to adopt these two litter mates together.

July is for Grey Cats & Brown Dogs

You know how your social calendar can remain blank for days and weeks at a time, then suddenly everything exciting happens on the same day? Well on Saturday July 11th the volunteers of Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue will have to be in two places at once..

First, The Brown Dog School in Wheat Ridge, an awesome source for obedience training for your dog as well as great grooming; will be hosting its Annual Adoption Party from 11AM-3PM.  RMCR will join the fun and help find forever homes for as many of our adoptable Cocker Spaniels as possible! There will be food, raffle prizes, doggie vendors and pet caricatures, with all proceeds benefiting local no-kill rescue organizations.

The Brown Dog School – Dog Training and Grooming Salon is located at 9900 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, for more information, you can contact them at 303-420-4468.

Also from 11:00 – 3:00 on both July 11th & 12th we will be at Tagawa Gardens in Parker for the Grey Kitty® Birthday Celebration Animal Rescue Event. We will join several other local rescue groups for the festivities including Birthday cake & lemonade, and an educational petting zoo. And of course we’ll have adorable Cocker Spaniels available for adoption with us as well.

Tagawa Gardens is located one mile south of Arapahoe Rd. and one mile north of E-470, at 7711 South Parker Road.  The driveway is just south of Broncos Parkway, at Mile Marker 64.  Just look for the banner that reads, “Tagawa Gardens Turn Here.”

So wether you’re north or south of the Denver metro area, mark your calendar and come out to see us, support local rescues, and maybe find a new furry family member!

Amos and Andy

John, Ileta, Amos and Andy

John, Ileta, Amos and Andy

John and Ileta were looking for a special dog to fill the gap left by the loss of their beloved Cocker, Taffy. Little did they know that their hearts would be captured by not one, but two, little guys. Amos and Andy came to rescue from a shelter in Wyoming. These adorable brothers had always been together and John and Ileta felt that it would be wrong to separate them after all they’d been through. Now called Hershey and Hunter, they have a nice big fenced yard in which to run and loving parents to keep them safe in their forever home, plus they will get to play with the grandkids and the grand-doggies that come to visit. When it all gets to be too much, they take turns napping with John in the recliner! Sounds like they have it made!

Lillie, Jamie and Oreo

Lillie, Jamie and Oreo

Jamie recently lost her dog Princess and she and her other cocker Oreo were very sad and looking for a new friend. Jamie spotted Lillie on our site and it was love at first sight! She adopted Lillie and she fits in very nicely with Jamie, Oreo and the two cats. Oreo and Lillie make such a cute pair. Now Oreo won’t be so lonely when Jamie goes to work. Oreo and Lillie hit it off and act like they’ve known each other forever! Congratulations to the whole family. Lillie has a forever home.

Meet Cecilia – Adopted

Cecilia is an eight year old Cocker Spaniel mix.  Her face is 100% Spaniel, but her tiny body may have a little Shih Tzu or Lhasa Apso!  Whatever her lineage, she’s a doll!  She weighs less than 22 pounds.

Cecilia was surrendered by her owners to an animal shelter.  She had kennel cough and bad dental problems.  She thought she heard them saying something about sending her to Asia because she was a senior with health issues!  After all, she’s only eight!  Fortunately, the vets at the shelter treated her kennel cough, another Good Samaritan vet took care of her dental problems, and now that she’s in foster care, she’s a happy girl!

Cecilia was supposedly surrendered because she was not housebroken, but she most certainly is.  Of course, if her owners didn’t let her out regularly, she didn’t have a choice, did she?  She has a doggie door at her foster home and she knows how to use it.  She gets along with the other dogs and the cat in her foster home.  She likes children, but would prefer older kids since those under the age of seven are so much more active.  Although she’s not quite ready for retirement, she would appreciate a quieter environment.

She doesn’t care for the crate and has proven to be trusted to be allowed to roam free in the house without any destruction or accidents.  She knows “sit” and “down” and is more than willing to learn.  She loves to run in the fenced yard and will chase toys and balls as long as you are willing to toss them.  She also loves to go for walks and although she pulls just a little on the lead, she isn’t overly aggressive.  She is great in the car.  Oh yes, and she loves treats!

Cecilia is spayed and up-to-date on her vaccinations.  All she needs is a loving forever home.  Even though she’s eight years old, she still acts like a youngster.  This little girl would make a wonderful companion!  One look into those brown eyes and you’ll see what we mean.
