Kodiak is an eight year old neutered male Cocker Spaniel that was dropped off at the shelter because his owners “didn’t want him anymore”. He is a sweet dog who gets along with other dogs. He can be a little bossy at times, but isn’t a classic alpha. He gets along with people, although he does seem to be more comfortable around women. He is pretty good with house training, although he has had a couple of accidents, so he will need some reinforcement in his house training skills.

Kodiak is up to date with his vaccinations and is microchipped. If you are interested in meeting him, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Do you see the contentment in this little girls face? This is Abby, a senior girl that came to us as an owner surrender. The family was having financial and health problems and decided that Abby needed a new home. Placing senior dogs has its own challenges and Abby needed extensive dental care and a huge cyst on her leg removed. But Steve and Carmen saw her on the website and knew right away that she was the one they wanted. A meeting was arranged and Abby had a new home! She is very happy in her new house and is loved beyond imagination. We think she might just be a tad bit spoiled as well, and we couldn’t be more pleased. Thanks, Steve and Carmen, for giving this little girl a chance to spend her golden years with you!

We agree that Goodfellow is an odd name for a dog! That’s why his foster parents call him Henry. When you adopt him, you can call him whatever you want, but we’ll keep Goodfellow on the paperwork until he gets to your house!

He is around two years old and has a full tail. He came to us from Salt Lake City where he’d ended up in a local animal shelter. He has a beautiful shiny black coat and gorgeous white teeth. You have to see him to appreciate his beauty – photos of black dogs do not always do them justice and that’s the case here! He came to us with two cherry eyes which have been repaired. His foster mom is working to house train him and he’s doing well but will probably require continued reinforcement. He’s an active little boy that likes to go for walks and rides in the car. He gets along well with other dogs and children, but we don’t know about cats. He’s up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped.

If you are interested in meeting Goodfellow, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Please welcome Gabriel!

Visitors to our Facebook page may recall seeing a YouTube video of Gabriel. If you missed it, here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6a5WvgGXSQ&feature=youtu.be.

You can see that he has indeed been rescued and is once again a beautiful boy. He had to have some surgeries to remove quite a few teeth, cherry eyes fixed and a neuter. He also had all of that matted hair cut off. He is much happier now that those abcessed teeth have been removed. He is still experiencing some tearing in his eyes and may benefit from regular eye drops.

Here is what his foster mom has to say:

He is very sweet and affectionate. Loves to go outside and sniff around in the backyard, and enjoys laying in the sun. He has learned to use the doggie door and loves his freedom. He is cuddly and sweet and has a NON-stop tail/butt wiggle. He loves toys-squeaky, shiny, or soft and furry. He likes to chew on rawhide bones.

Does occasionally bark/howl when he sees birds or other wildlife animals in trees. Not a huge bark, and usually stops when I tell him to stop. He gets along well with other dogs large and small and has not shown any aggressive behaviors around people or animals. He has not been around children yet.

Likes his food, and finishes his half cup portions in one sitting. He is getting one cup total per day. He sits before getting treats and takes treats very gently. He is a gentle little guy all around. We are working on the weight loss. He is at 35 lbs now. He likes to sleep on the couch or the bed, so we are working on getting him comfortable enough to sleep in a dog bed or on a blanket on the floor. He does not go into his crate at all and doesn’t seem to care for it. He is good roaming free when we are gone from the house, no accidents, no chewing, no getting into the garbage.

Great dog! Follows me around the house, likes car rides and likes walks.

If you are interested in meeting Gabriel, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Sadie is a one and one-half year old Cocker mix that came to us from New Mexico. She is a very sweet, loving dog that just says “love me” when she looks at you with those beautiful eyes. She is quite obedient, walks well on a leash, comes immediately when you call her name and is not food aggressive, but she does get so excited when it comes to treats that she can hardly contain herself. She was housetrained when we got her and now she is a pro at the doggy door as well. While she is slightly timid, she is quite friendly with everyone she meets and gets along well with her housemates, Blackjack and Pepper (though Pepper wasn’t the happiest when she arrived, she’s gotten used to and accepts her now). However, Sadie never batted a lash if Pepper growled at her to get off the same couch, she just jumped off and sat on the floor nearby. She is quite playful and likes chasing after plastic balls, tennis ones too except that she then chews those right up.

Sadie has a full tail and is white with black merle markings. She is up to date on all vaccinations and is spayed. RMCR will microchip her for you.

If you are interested in meeting Sadie, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

Last month we took in Josie, a heartworm positive stray from Missouri who had just given birth to nine puppies. Since she was a stray, we have no idea with what breed these puppies may be mixed, but they are Cocker mixes. There are five males and one female left (previous applicants have already spoken for three of the puppies). The vet tells us that there is almost no chance that they would have inherited heartworm from their mother and they will be put on heartworm preventative as soon as they are old enough to ensure their safety.

These kids will be ready to go at around ten weeks. They will not yet be spayed and neutered. Therefore anyone intereseted in adopting will have one of two options: they may foster the dog until they reach the age at which they can be altered and RMCR will cover the cost of the surgery, or they may adopt and opt to pay a $300 security deposit IN ADDITION to the $300 adoption fee. The deposit is fully refundable when proof of spay or neuter is received.

Their foster mom is working diligently to instill house training skills. They are very active and a lot of fun.

If you are interested in one of these puppies, please make sure you have completed an online adoption form. We expect the female to go quickly, and the others almost as fast. We will have to honor the “first come, first served” system in this situation.

Hi! My name is Prince. That’s just what I am – a Prince. This is the second time I’ve been at Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue and I’m looking for someone that will love me for the rest of my life. See, this time I’m back because my owner had some family difficulties and understood that I wasn’t getting the attention that I deserved! I’m in a wonderful foster home right now with some other fun dogs, but I really want a home of my own.

I love kids and I love to play! I’ll chase the ball if you throw it. If you’re busy, I can even toss it myself and chase after it. I’m really no problem at all. I’m a love bug too! I like to sit next to you and give you lots of attention and puppy kisses! I’ve had a few problems with my ears and with the skin on my tummy, but they think they’ve got that under control. If you feed me good food and clean my ears regularly, I promise not to be a problem! So, please call soon! I’ll be waiting to meet you.

Prince is four years old, up to date on all of his vaccinations, is neutered and microchipped. If you are interested in meeting him, please complete an online adoption application.

This is what Iris’s foster mom has to say about her:

Beats me how this sweet, intelligent, lovable little girl wound up as an unclaimed stray in a local animal shelter. Did I mention she is beautiful? At her checkup last week, she weighed in at a petite 15 pounds. She is white with buff spots, light buff ears, a little kissing spot on the top of her head, a few freckles on her nose, and large, soulful eyes. The shelter named her Iris, which is her legal name for now, but I call her Sugar, because everyone who meets her comments on her sweetness. People also think she looks like a puppy. The shelter estimated her age at eleven years. The veterinarian who cleaned her teeth last week thinks she could be as young as eight years. Iris has just been given all her vaccinations including a series of two canine flu vaccinations, and has been tested negative for heartworm. She had been spayed in her previous life.

She loves to go for walks, does a dance when she knows she gets to go, and is friendly with everyone she meets, whether they have two legs or four. She is house trained and sleeps in my bedroom on her dog bed. She sleeps through the night, and I have to wake her in the morning. I do not crate her when I leave the house, but so far I have only left her for a couple of hours at a time. She stays off the furniture unless invited, and she has not been destructive. She is very quiet. I have only heard one little woof out of her to the dog on the other side of the fence. Her voice is as tiny and cute as she is. It is obvious she has been loved by someone, and she should become a beloved companion for her lucky new owner.

If you are interested in meeting Iris, please make sure you’ve completed an online adoption application.

RMCR has received multiple applications for Maxwell. You may still appy with the understanding that he may not be available for adoption.

Hi there, my name is Maxwell. You may not know it yet, but you’ve been waiting your whole life to find a dog like me. I’m a young, handsome guy who’s on the small side – only three years old and barely weighing in at 20 pounds. You know what that means? I’m the perfect size for your lap, which, if I had it my way, is where I would spend most of my time. I arrived in Denver on a transport from Kansas. It was a long ride, but I hear folks in Colorado are real nice and I’m hoping I might get a chance at a life where I’m safe and loved forever.

My foster family doesn’t really know how I’ve gotten this far in life without finding a family who wouldn’t dream of parting with me. First of all, they tell me I’m cute as a button with my fabulous markings, soft coat and tiny stature (not to mention eyes that will melt your heart). Secondly, I’m about as sweet as they come. I love to cuddle and sit in laps and have my belly rubbed. It is my purpose in life to love you unconditionally. Third, I’m still full of puppy spunk without the hassle of needing to be trained. Playing ball is probably the most fun thing in the world, don’t you think? If you don’t have a ball, I love to wrestle and play with my people – it’s such a good time! Walks are good, too. My foster parents says I still need some work on my walking manners, but they say for a pup that probably hasn’t had any experience, I’m learning pretty darn fast. I would never dream of doing my outside business in the house and I certainly know not to destroy my home as well. I’m not a barker (for a while, my foster mom wondered if I even had a voice!) and I mind very well. Disappointing you probably upsets me more than it does you. I know what “no” means and you can bet that if you tell me once, I won’t do it again. All I want is for us to be happy together.

Are you ready for the icing on the cake? I get along with anyone and anything. Big dogs, small dogs, fluffy cats, hairless cats, tiny humans, big humans… You name it, I’ll adapt! So what do you say? I have been waiting a long time for a warm lap and someone who loves me as much as I love them. Do you have room in your heart and your home for the love of your life?

Maxwell is up to date on all vaccinations, is neutered and will be microchipped for you. If you are interested in meeting Maxwell, please complete an online adoption application.
