Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue

Flag

Flag has an adoption application pending!!

Flag is a nine year old Cocker Spaniel that recently lost his owner and is looking for a new home.  He is a black and white male with a full tail and came into rescue with his best pal, Maddie.  He would like to be adopted with Maddie, but it is not necessary.

Flag is neutered and is up to date on his vaccinations which will be due in June 2010 except for rabies which will not be due until June of 2011.  Flag has issues with some other males and would prefer all of your attention if possible!  He seems to do fine with other females.  He is house trained and is in good health.

Flag’s former owner had her own home-based business and was at home with him a lot, so he is used to having someone around.  Currently he spends 5-6 hours unsupervised and is fine.  The best home situation for him would be with owners that either work part-time, have a home-based business, or are retired.  He would really like a nice fenced yard so that he can get out and investigate.  We recommend a home without young children since he’s never lived in that environment.  He has done fine with children at adoption events.

Max

Hi!  My name is Max and I’m three years old.  I just got into town!  My owner in Wyoming decided he didn’t want me and my sister anymore, so he took us to the shelter there.  Someone adopted my sister, but left me behind.  I was pretty sad.  The nice lady at the shelter called the folks at RMCR and asked if I could come to Denver and find a forever home, so here I am.

I have copper colored fur and the groomer had to shave everything but my ears because I had lots of mats.  I really love to be petted and sit really close to you.  I have beautiful eyes and really white teeth that sparkle when I smile up at you!  I would really like to come live with you and be yours forever!

I’m supposed to tell you that I have all my vaccinations and that I’m neutered and microchipped.  No accidents in the house so far.  I’m not really cracked up about this crate thing though - I spent a long time in a kennel in the shelter, so I’d really like to be free to stay near you!  I’m good with kids that are over the age of thirteen!

If you want to meet me, please fill out one of these adoption application things.  I’ll be waiting.

Sophie

Sophie has an adoption application pending!!

Sophie is a beautiful sweet white female Cockapoo.  Most dogs think they’re lap dogs: Sophie is pretty sure she’s either a parrot or a headrest!  Her favorite spot is on top of the back of the sofa where she can snuggle against your head and give you the occasional little kiss.  Sophie is fully house trained and a very loving little girl.  She gets along with the other dogs, does great in a car, and walks well on a leash.  She comes when called and knows: sit, off, lie down, shake hands, and cookie.  Sophie is two and one-half years old, spayed, and has all her shots.  This little lover will find a forever home very quickly.

Sophie needs a home with older children.  She mistakes toddlers as competition and exhibits resource guarding around them.  She growls when they come too close to her toys and food.   She was very tolerant with older children at a recent adoption event.  We also do not know how she reacts to cats, so a cat-free home is recommended.

Barcelona

Barcelona has an adoption application pending!!

Barcelona (we call him Bart for short) is a lively Cocker mix –we think he might have a little Australian Cattle Dog in him based on his coloring and coat texture.

His story is one of the reasons we do rescue:  he was seen being thrown from a moving car in Missouri!  Despite that, he seems to be in great health and not traumatized at all.  He is very affectionate, sweet and friendly.  Bart knows about chasing balls, comes when called, and knows sit, down, and cookie.  This little cutie is fully house-trained and gets along well with the other dogs, rides great in the car and only tugs a little on a leash–we’re working on that.  Bart did great with children at a recent adoption event.  This three year old little boy has been neutered and has all his shots.  We’re not sure how he is around cats, so a cat-free home would be a good suggestion.

If you are interested in meeting Bart, please complete an online adoption application.

Benji

Benji already has an adoption application pending!!

Benji is an adorable 14 month old white male Cockapoo that is looking for a new home.  His former owner started exhibiting signs of asthma after Benji came to live with her, and although it broke her heart, she had to find a new home for him.

Benji is very friendly and energetic.  He’s house trained, crate trained, up to date on his vaccination and micro chipped.  He craves attention and loves to play with his toys.  Benji is good on a leash and is friendly with people and other dogs.

Jordan’s Happy Tale

Jordan and her new family

Jordan’s new mom, Bev, writes:

This past year we lost our two 17 year old Cocker Spaniels, Lickie and Puddles, that we had adopted from the Humane Society. They gave our family such love and happiness. Lickie and Puddles were both so smart, funny, and loving. Their deaths left such a whole in my heart.

I knew we had to have another Cocker so I set out to find that kind of love again. That’s when I came across the Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue, and Jordan. Jordan’s owner had passed away, and she had been in several different places. When I saw her, I knew she was meant for us. She too is a very smart and sweet cocker. We feel we’ve helped her with her loss and she has helped us with ours.

I wanted to somehow repay and thank Lickie and Puddles for a portion of the many years of companionship they gave to our family so I joined the Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue to assist in finding homes for other Cockers. I would encourage anyone who can to help by fostering. Fostering save lives by giving RMCR time to find the right home for the many Cockers they are rescuing.

A Tale of Brave Ulysses

Ulysses (now Oscar) with his new playmates

Ulysses came to us so very sick with pneumonia. But after vet visits and tender loving care from his foster Mom and Dad, he recovered and was spotted on the web by his new family. It was love at first sight.  Ulysses met each family member, including his new cockapoo buddy Sammy, and acted like he’d lived there for years.  It was heartwarming to see the dogs and the kids just have a ball, literally, they loved playing ball! Ulysses is now Oscar and has a new happy home with lots of fun and activity.

Callie’s Wiggle Butt Tale

Callie with Sarah, Rob and kids

Callie with Sarah, Rob and kids

Callie’s original owner gave her to a shelter due to personal problems. Callie was so scared in the kennel that no one could come near while she was at the shelter, so they contacted a local behaviorist who saw Callie’s potential as an awesome dog and took her home for fostering.  After some rehab time with this wonderful behaviorist, Callie was driven from South Dakota to Colorado during the snow storm right before Christmas so she had her best chance of adoption through our program. After 2 weeks in foster care in Denver, she found her forever home with Sarah and Rob and their 3 young children. Sarah and Rob decided it was the right time for their young family to adopt a dog, so she filled out an adoption application and expected to wait for awhile before they found one that would fit their family. Twenty four hours later, we brought Callie over for a visit. Her cute little face and long eyelashes were hard to resist and her playful nature sealed the deal. Callie’s new family loves her dearly and this precious little girl is settling in nicely where she will have children to play with all day and a mom and dad to cuddle with prior to bedtime.

Maddie and Flag

Maddie and Flag are nine year old Cocker Spaniel friends that recently lost their owner and are looking for a new home.  They’ve lived together their entire lives and really would like to find a new home together.  Maddie is a black female and Flag is a black and white male.

Both of these wonderful kids have been altered and are up to date on their vaccinations which will be due in June 2010 except for rabies which will not be due until June of 2011.  Both dogs are good with other animals, but would prefer all of your attention if possible!  They are house trained and are in good health.

Maddie and Flag’s former owner had her own home-based business and was at home with them a lot, so they are used to having someone around.  Currently they spend 5-6 hours unsupervised and are fine.  The best home situation for them would be to stay together wiht owners that either work part-time, have a home-based business, or are retired.  They would really like a nice fenced yard so that they can get out and investigate.  We recommend a home without young children since they’ve never lived in that environment.

New adoption events for 2010!

Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue is pleased to announce that we will be attending regular monthly adoption events in 2010!

On the second Saturday of each month, we will be at the PETCO in Southlands.  This is a wonderful opportunity for us to partner with PETCO to introduce our rescued Cocker Spaniels and to encourage folks looking for a new pet to consider adopting a rescued dog.

The folks at PETCO put their hearts into helping homeless animals. In partnership with numerous animal welfare organizations nationwide, such as county animal shelters and local humane societies, they help find homes for thousands of homeless pets every month.  Additionally, each pet adopted at the PETCO event will get a coupon good for their first groom at the PETCO full-service grooming salon.

The Soutlands PETCO is located at 24101 E Orchard Road, Suite C, Aurora CO 80016.  Their phone number is 303-627-5710.  We will be there from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.  Keep up to date with their Store Events Calendar.

On the third Saturday of each month, we will be joining other rescue groups at Wilmore Nursery in Littleton.  Wilmore Nursery is also a good friend to rescue groups and has generously invited us to be a part of their monthly rescue event.

We will be at Willmore from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.  They are located at 711 E County Line Road, Littleton CO 80122, just a couple of blocks east of Broadway.  There is plenty of additional parking on Phillips Street next door to the nursery.

While you’re there, take a look at their huge selection of plants, shrubs and trees.  Their helpful employees are always willing to offer their advice and experience regarding any questions you may have.  Visit their website at www.wilmorenurseries.com for more information or call 303-795-5339.
