Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue

Pebbles

Pebbles is an energetic two year old female Cocker Spaniel that was an owner surrender to one of the local shelters.  She is a total sweetheart who bonds quickly with her caretakers.  She is black with a fair amount of white on her chest.  She also has very light, barely noticeable, white patches on her head and back.  Also, she also has one blue eye and one brown eye!

She has been fostered with other dogs and with a cat and gets along well.  We don’t know anything about her past or why she was surrendered, but she seems to be the happiest little girl ever.  Her little tail never seems to stop wagging and she dearly loves a tummy rub!  One of her ear flaps is thick with cartilage as if it was damaged when she was younger.  She seems to be house trained and learned how to use a doggy door almost immediately.  She loves to dance on her back legs for attention or to try and see what’s on the kitchen counter!

Pebbles is indeed a joy and would make a wonderful addition to any home.  She is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations and microchipped.

Toby

Toby is a three and one-half year old Cocker Spaniel/Cavalier King Charles mix who is being surrendered by his owner.  They have a seven-month old child that is becoming more mobile and Toby is a bit jealous, although he gets along well with the older children and another dog in the house.  Toby is neutered, is house trained (although he has a rare occasional accident in the house) and is up to date on his vaccinations (due February 2012).

Toby knows basic commands, knows how to use his doggy door, is very playful and loves his squeaky balls and his bones.  He would be a wonderful addition to a home with older kids and other dogs.  We’re not sure about cats.  Toby has small siezures that have been diagnosed as not serious during which he seems to be snapping at flies.  These seizures are not harmful to him or anyone else, however a potential adopter would want to share this information with their vet so that it can be watched in the future.

If you are interested in meeting Toby, please make sure you have completed an online adoption application.

Confetti

Confetti is approximately five years old. Confetti is white with black spots. She is as sweet as you can imagine and gets along with other dogs (after an initial adjustment period) and children. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations and is microchipped.

Confetti came to Denver from Kansas City where she was picked up as a stray. She was matted and suffering from an upper respiratory infection, so we did not realize that she had total hearing loss. She was segregated from the other dogs in her foster home, so that gave her time to adjust to her environment and meet the dogs without incident. At adoption events, she seems to be leash aggressive, charging at other dogs that invade her space, but this is posturing to protect her space. Once she is comfortable with the other canine companions, she gets along just fine. She has a unique coat, black and white with patches of buff on her feet and on her eyebrows. Most likely, her deafness is a result of inbreeding for coat quality by one of the many puppy mills in existence in Missouri.

Confetti has a fun personality. She “sings” in the car, making special sounds to remind everyone that she’s there and is enjoying the ride. She loves to watch out the window. At home, she loves exploring her yard and rolling in the grass. She is not the least affected by her hearing loss and just wants a permanent home where she can get all the attention she deserves.

If you are interested in meeting Confetti, please make sure you have completed an online adoption application.

Clarence

Clarence is a 5-6 year old Cocker Spaniel mix, most likely with a Springer Spaniel.  He is an owner surrender.

Clarence was adopted from the Denver Dumb Friends League and has been with his current family for around five years.  He was uncomfortable around men, but has been treated with Prozac and has been doing well.  Although he has been around small children with no incident, he recently snapped at the owner’s nine-month-old child.  Although he has never bitten anyone, they are concerned that he will bite the child and feel it best to find a new home for him.   He knows how to shake, give a high-five, and jump through a hoop!  He loves to follow his owners around, even the dog-sitters.

Clarence seems to be willing to please, but perhaps had some trauma in his earlier life.  He would do best in a home with experienced owners with no children.

Clarence is up to date on his vaccines.  In addition to his Reconcile (Prozac for canines), he also take an inexpensive medicine for hypothyroidism on a daily basis.  He is neutered, crate trained, has had professional training and enjoys going on walks.  He is house trained and can be trusted to be left alone indoors for extended periods of time.

If you are interested in meeting Clarence, please make sure you have completed an online adoption application.

Shasta

Shasta is an adorable small black and white female Cocker Spaniel that was found as a stray with her best friend Pierre (a black and brown Cockapoo).  They traveled from eastern Kansas to Denver in hopes of finding a new home.  So far she is nothing but sweet and quiet.  She met her foster family’s cat and showed little interest and is good with their other dogs and kids.  Although she would like to have a home with Pierre, as long as there’s a loving person to keep her safe, she’ll be content.

Shasta is spayed and is up to date with her vaccinations.  RMCR will make sure that she is microchipped for you in case she ever decides to go on another adventure!  She is comfortable in a crate and does well on a leash.

If you are interested in meeting Shasta, please complete an online adoption application.

Blue

Blue is a black and white merle Cocker Spaniel. His name is Blue because he has one beautiful blue eye and one brown eye. His markings are nothing short of phenomenal with gorgeous silver colors intermixed in with his black and white fur.

Blue is around three and a half years old and was surrendered to a local shelter by a breeder. Fortunately, he doesn’t exhibit any of the genetic defects possible with breeding merles. He’s friendly and easy to please. He loves car rides, other dogs and even cats. He has been suffering from a chronic upset tummy and the vet thinks that he may have a food allergy which means he would need to be on a diet that consists of proteins other than the typical chicken, beef or lamb. He’s also on probiotics to re-establish healthy bacteria in his stomach. He loves to be held and have his tummy scratched to which he responds with generous kisses.

If you are interested in meeting Blue, please complete an online adoption application.

Cupcake

Cupcake is approximately eight months old and is a Cocker Spaniel mix.  She came into rescue with her mother, Foxy, from Las Vegas NM.  They were surrendered to the animal shelter by their owner because they had more dogs than allowed by the county.  Cupcake is being spayed as we post this, is micro-chipped and is up to date on vaccinations.  Due to her age, she may need some reinforcing of house training skills.  She gets along with everyone and would be a wonderful addition to any family.

If you are interested in meeting Cupcake, please complete in online adoption application.

Charlie

Charlie is a six year old male black and white Cocker Spaniel that is being surrendered by his owner.  He actually belonged to the owners mother but sadly she contracted Alzheimer’s and had to go into a memory care facility.  The owner already has two dogs and her landlord won’t allow her to keep Charlie.

Charlie is neutered and weighs around 45 pounds, so he’s a little overweight.  He’s currently on a diet plan to help him reduce.  The vet would like to see him get down to 35 pounds.  He is house trained and is allowed to roam free in the home when no one is there.  He is not crate trained, but is leash trained.  He is up to date on his vaccinations and will be microchipped before being adopted.  He’s looking for a forever home with lots of love and attention.

If you are interested in meeting Charlie, please complete an online adoption application

Update from Charlie’s foster mom:

This is a real gentleman of a dog.  He has a beautiful friendly face and is black and white. His personality is wonderfully mellow and I would say submissive – he always defers to my 2 females aged 4 and 19 and has NEVER once been aggressive toward them. He likes to lounge around ; always cuddling up to or near his masters feet, but as he is only 4 he does need to be walked. He is a steady strider that you can have a “fast walk” with, but I would not call him an athletic “running type” of dog. He does not yank on the leash and stays with you. He has the distinctive English “high stepping” way of walking.
One thing that is important to him is he likes to spend his spare time outside soaking up the sun – he will go outside several times a day and just sit. Therefore he needs a home with a back yard.
Other things: is not interested in toys or dog biscuits but LOVES peanut butter as a treat. He takes it in a gentle manner. He has a hearty appitite for dry food and drinks lots of water.  He seems to have been trained not to jump up on couches or people.(He doesnt do it) He knows Sit and Stay and DEFINITELY knows his name. All in all this is just the sweetest bundle of love that would work out great as a family or single persons pet. (PS I don’t have a cat and neither do any of my neighbors so I don’t know how he is with them)
