Earlier this year, RMCR announced that we would be attending an adoption event at Wilmore Nursery every third Saturday of the month. As it turns out, the adoption events at Wilmore fluctuate and are not consistently every third Saturday and the schedule often conflicts with commitments we have with other events.
Consequently, we’ve agreed to extend our relationship with Petco. The Petco store at Park Meadows has invited us to be present every third Saturday of the month at their location. Our standing monthly adoption events at Petco are as follows:
First Saturday – Petco – Highlands Ranch, 1265 Sgt Jon Stiles Drive, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129, 303-346-0471
Second Saturday – Petco – Southlands, 24101 East Orchard Road Suite C, Aurora, CO 80016, 303-627-5710
Third Saturday – Petco – Park Meadows, 9425 East County Line Road, Englewood, CO 80112, 303-708-0616
We will be at each of these events from 9:00am until 4:00pm, either inside or outside depending on the weather. We invite all interested parties to stop by and visit. We also encourage previous adopters to bring their dogs for a visit so that we can catch up on how they are doing in their fabulous new lives!
In addtion to these regularly scheduled events, we will also have a second team that will attend other special events such as the Pearl Street Fair as we are invited. Please check back often to see when these additional events will be held.

Bailey is a small, 5.5 year old, neutered male Cockapoo who was surrendered by his owner due to her health challenges. This cutie pie is a little intimidated by new dogs, especially bigger dogs, but once he gets to know the dog he is fine and would love to have a buddy. Bailey would also love to have school age children to play with in his new home.
Bailey is house trained, but not crate trained. He may have a little separation anxiety since his owner reported that he sometimes marked the baseboards (nothing else, just the baseboards) in some rooms when he was left alone. This behavior can be eliminated through training.
This little boy also loves to rip up his blanket or bedding, so we would recommend that he have an old blanket to call his own that he can tear to his heart’s content. Of course, Bailey would love squeaky toys, balls and chew toys as well! No little Cockapoo’s life would be complete without lots of toys to carry around and call his own.
Bailey would love a home with a fenced yard and doggie door so he can come and go as he pleases. A privacy fence would be best so he isn’t tempted to bark at the passers-by. He would be a very happy dog if he could have another playful dog and/or children aged 7 years and older to play with every day.
Bailey is up to date on all his vaccinations and ready for his new forever home! Just fill out this online application form.

Tess with Michelle and her new family
Tess came to us from an Amish puppy mill outside Independence, MO where she was kept in a cramped cage and bred as frequently as possible during her four years of life. Luckily, the breeder decided to get out of the business of Cocker Spaniels, which is how she came to Colorado and found a forever home. She had been with us for about a week and was at a Petco adoption event when Michelle and her daughter saw her fresh from the groomer. Tess is just a love bug, which is amazing considering her initial four years of life, so she quickly won the hearts of her admirers. Was it a just coincidence that Michelle just happened to go to that particular Petco on that particular day just as Tess got out of the grooming salon or was it destiny? Judging by the happy faces in the picture, it’s a happy tale no matter how it came about! We’re just thrilled that another precious Cocker was saved from a lifetime of abuse at the hands of a puppy miller and given a fresh start with a loving family in a forever home.

Sophie has an adoption application pending!!
Sophie is a beautiful sweet white female Cockapoo. Most dogs think they’re lap dogs: Sophie is pretty sure she’s either a parrot or a headrest! Her favorite spot is on top of the back of the sofa where she can snuggle against your head and give you the occasional little kiss. Sophie is fully house trained and a very loving little girl. She gets along with the other dogs, does great in a car, and walks well on a leash. She comes when called and knows: sit, off, lie down, shake hands, and cookie. Sophie is two and one-half years old, spayed, and has all her shots. This little lover will find a forever home very quickly.
Sophie needs a home with older children. She mistakes toddlers as competition and exhibits resource guarding around them. She growls when they come too close to her toys and food. She was very tolerant with older children at a recent adoption event. We also do not know how she reacts to cats, so a cat-free home is recommended.
If you are interested in meeting Sophie, please complete an online adoption application.

Benji already has an adoption application pending!!
Benji is an adorable 14 month old white male Cockapoo that is looking for a new home. His former owner started exhibiting signs of asthma after Benji came to live with her, and although it broke her heart, she had to find a new home for him.
Benji is very friendly and energetic. He’s house trained, crate trained, up to date on his vaccination and micro chipped. He craves attention and loves to play with his toys. Benji is good on a leash and is friendly with people and other dogs.
If you are interested in meeting this wonderful little guy, please complete an online adoption application.

Teresa and Boots
Boots came to us from Nebraska after his elderly owner realized a two year old dog had too much energy for her 80+ years. This totally adorable American Cocker Spaniel stole a lot of hearts, but he saved his heart for Teresa who saw him at one of our adoption events at Petco. Boots and Teresa have bonded tightly in their few days together; he never wants to be parted from her and covers her in kisses when she comes home! This precious dog loves to be carried like a baby with his head on her shoulder! We are so happy for this little boy who is now the center of his mom’s attention and life. Teresa receives his unconditional love and full attention. He even ignores the guinea pigs in the home! They snuggle together all night, take long walks, and play fetch when he isn’t in clicker training to become a perfectly trained pup. We think these two will be velcroed together for many years to come.

On Sunday, June 13, 2010, the Old Pearl Street Association will host the 2010 Old South Pearl Street Pet Fair at the 1500 block of South Pearl Street in Denver. Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue will once again take part in this event along with some of our most eligible Cocker Spaniels.
Please feel free to bring your pets along with you, but bear in mind that the weather in mid-June can be quite warm! If you are bringing animals, you may want to bring something to put on the pavement for them to stop and stand on, or perhaps an umbrella for shade, and don’t forget to bring plenty of water for them and for you!
We will be offering low cost micro-chipping and would love to talk to you about Cocker Spaniels and animal rescue. The event will take place from 9:00 – 1:00 between Florida and Iowa Avenues on old South Pearl Street. Be sure to stop by and say hi!

Vince with Dan and Sarah, peeking over the other dog's head!
Vince is such a handsome, gentle and friendly American Cocker Spaniel, so it’s always a surprise to us when we get dogs like this who were found as strays. Vince came to us from southwest Missouri just a few days prior to his debut at an adoption event. Dan and Sarah came to the Petco at Highlands Ranch looking for a playmate for their Basset Hound and immediately fell in love with Vince, so they rushed home to get their other dogs to see if it would be a good match. Although Vince is dwarfed in the picture (only his little head is showing), he indeed fits into the family well and plays with his new best buddy all the time. Welcome to Colorado and your new forever home, Vince!

Nancy and Titanium, now called Becca
Titanium had a rough life for someone so young. In her 15 months of life, she was a puppy mill dog taken after a raid to a vet in Kansas who cared for her until she came to Colorado. She was so very shy and timid that we knew she would need extra TLC and a home where she would be loved and allowed to bloom. Nancy was drawn to Titanium’s beautiful red coloring with the white blaze on her chest and her freckled nose. She knew that this young Cocker would need a special home and was willing to give her the time and space to come out of her shell. On her second night in her new home, Titanium slept on the bed with Nancy and woke her with a cold nose on her nose! Then she curled up under her arm to settle in for sleep. Nancy obviously has the right touch for a dog who just didn’t know where she belonged in life. They are bonding nicely now and Titanium has a name to match her sweet, gentle personality…Becca.

Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue is pleased to announce that we will be attending regular monthly adoption events in 2010!

On the second Saturday of each month, we will be at the PETCO in Southlands. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to partner with PETCO to introduce our rescued Cocker Spaniels and to encourage folks looking for a new pet to consider adopting a rescued dog.
The folks at PETCO put their hearts into helping homeless animals. In partnership with numerous animal welfare organizations nationwide, such as county animal shelters and local humane societies, they help find homes for thousands of homeless pets every month. Additionally, each pet adopted at the PETCO event will get a coupon good for their first groom at the PETCO full-service grooming salon.
The Soutlands PETCO is located at 24101 E Orchard Road, Suite C, Aurora CO 80016. Their phone number is 303-627-5710. We will be there from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Keep up to date with their Store Events Calendar.

On the third Saturday of each month, we will be joining other rescue groups at Wilmore Nursery in Littleton. Wilmore Nursery is also a good friend to rescue groups and has generously invited us to be a part of their monthly rescue event.
We will be at Willmore from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. They are located at 711 E County Line Road, Littleton CO 80122, just a couple of blocks east of Broadway. There is plenty of additional parking on Phillips Street next door to the nursery.
While you’re there, take a look at their huge selection of plants, shrubs and trees. Their helpful employees are always willing to offer their advice and experience regarding any questions you may have. Visit their website at www.wilmorenurseries.com for more information or call 303-795-5339.
