Butterscotch’s Happy Tale

Chad, Tara and Astyn (formerly Butterscotch)

Butterscotch is one of those lucky rescue dogs that never made it onto the RMCR Web site.  On the day that she was surrendered by her former owners, she went to an adoption event in Colorado Springs.  Chad and Tara happened to walk by and noticed her.  After talking it over, they decided that they would like to give her a new home.  They submitted an application and after it was processed, they welcomed her into their home and are now calling her Astyn.  Tara wrote to say that she fits right in to the home and that she really wanted to play with the resident cat.  At first, the cat wasn’t so crazy about having a canine sister, she was getting braver and we assume that by now they’re good pals!

Missy’s Happy Tale

Missy, a Cocker mix, arrived in the Rescue a scared, distrusting and defensive dog who had known life only as a too-small crate in the basement. After four months with RMCR, she had blossomed into a playful, happy, confident little girl who loved to be with her people. Nancy was looking for a new companion after losing her beloved Cocker, Copper, and expressed an interest in Missy. When Missy showed up to the adoption event, looking super cute after a trip to the groomer, Nancy fell in love! Missy’s foster mom knew it was a good match when Missy curled up next to Nancy after a few minutes with her, and then saw Missy trot off happily with Nancy to her new life. We wish Nancy and Missy all the best!!

Brighton Culture Fest Follow-up

RMCR was pleased to be a part of Brighton Culture Fest on June 5, 2010.  Kathryn, Glenda and Noel were there with Cockers Harry, Cassie and Alpine.  There was lots of traffic and several folks expressed interest in adopting, volunteering and fostering dogs.  It was a warm afternoon and the booth next door had a big fan that was blowing a nice cool mist, so Alpine figured it out and planted himself in front of it for several hours. At one point, he laid facing the fan with his nose only about 6-12″ from the fan!  Our thanks to the City of Brighton for inviting us to participate!  See you next year??

Monthly Event Change Announcement

Earlier this year, RMCR announced that we would be attending an adoption event at Wilmore Nursery every third Saturday of the month.  As it turns out, the adoption events at Wilmore fluctuate and are not consistently every third Saturday and the schedule often conflicts with commitments we have with other events.

Consequently, we’ve agreed to extend our relationship with Petco.  The Petco store at Park Meadows has invited us to be present every third Saturday of the month at their location.  Our standing monthly adoption events at Petco are as follows:
First Saturday – Petco – Highlands Ranch, 1265 Sgt Jon Stiles Drive, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129, 303-346-0471
Second Saturday – Petco – Southlands, 24101 East Orchard Road Suite C, Aurora, CO 80016, 303-627-5710
Third Saturday – Petco – Park Meadows, 9425 East County Line Road, Englewood, CO 80112, 303-708-0616

We will be at each of these events from 9:00am until 4:00pm, either inside or outside depending on the weather.  We invite all interested parties to stop by and visit.  We also encourage previous adopters to bring their dogs for a visit so that we can catch up on how they are doing in their fabulous new lives!

In addtion to these regularly scheduled events, we will also have a second team that will attend other special events such as the Pearl Street Fair as we are invited.  Please check back often to see when these additional events will be held.

A Happy Tale for Tess

Tess with Michelle and her new family

Tess came to us from an Amish puppy mill outside Independence, MO where she was kept in a cramped cage and bred as frequently as possible during her four years of life. Luckily, the breeder decided to get out of the business of Cocker Spaniels, which is how she came to Colorado and found a forever home. She had been with us for about a week and was at a Petco adoption event when Michelle and her daughter saw her fresh from the groomer. Tess is just a love bug, which is amazing considering her initial four years of life, so she quickly won the hearts of her admirers. Was it a just coincidence that Michelle just happened to go to that particular Petco on that particular day just as Tess got out of the grooming salon or was it destiny? Judging by the happy faces in the picture, it’s a happy tale no matter how it came about! We’re just thrilled that another precious Cocker was saved from a lifetime of abuse at the hands of a puppy miller and given a fresh start with a loving family in a forever home.

Nixie’s Happy Tale

Beatrix and Don with Sammy and Nixie

Don and Beatrix were looking for a companion for nine year old Sammy when they stumbled across our web site.   They asked about a couple of the pups, but decided that Nixie would be the best fit.  They came to visit him at one of the Petco adoption events and they only had to look at him to know he was the right one.  Sammy seemed to agree.  Nixie settled right in, even falling asleep on Don’s lap as they drove home that afternoon.   Sammy is teaching Nixie how to fetch and play with toys.  All in all, we think he’s going to have a good life!  Way to go, Nixie!

2010 Pearl Street Pet Fair

On Sunday, June 13, 2010, the Old Pearl Street Association will host the 2010 Old South Pearl Street Pet Fair at the 1500 block of South Pearl Street in Denver.  Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue will once again take part in this event along with some of our most eligible Cocker Spaniels.

Please feel free to bring your pets along with you, but bear in mind that the weather in mid-June can be quite warm! If you are bringing animals, you may want to bring something to put on the pavement for them to stop and stand on, or perhaps an umbrella for shade, and don’t forget to bring plenty of water for them and for you!

We will be offering low cost micro-chipping and would love to talk to you about Cocker Spaniels and animal rescue.   The event will take place from 9:00 – 1:00 between Florida and Iowa Avenues on old South Pearl Street.  Be sure to stop by and say hi!
