Returning to RMCR through no fault of his own-He gets excited when you return home and likes to stay in the same room with you. MacGruff is a small red cocker with dark brown highlights on his ears, face, and back. He is a special needs dog who came to RMCR from a local shelter. MacGruff has a history of having been hit by a car without veterinarian follow-up. He has a circling behavior of unknown origin and has been diagnosed as Vestibular Disease secondary to ruptured ear drum and / or trauma from prior car accident. His ear drum has now healed. When MacGruff is excited like when he is waiting for his food to be prepare the circling increases. Due to the removal of all of his teeth while in the shelter he will need soft food the rest of his life. He prefers dry kibble that has been soaked in water. MacGruff has a lot of love to give and is a gentle, happy dog. He will need an adopter who will be able to work with the circling behavior and perhaps even be able to have a neurology consult with an MRI to see if there is any residual central nervous system damage from the car accident. Needs fenced yard to help with potty issues. Apartment will not work out. History of being hit by car leading to residual circling issues. Sweet boy who can get possessive of his person but cannot bite as he has no teeth. Does best with women. NO cats! Children over 5 ok. Will do best in home where he will not be left for over 4-5 hours so he can get out to potty. Should have companion animal.
If not already, MacGruff D will be micro-chipped, neutered (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on his shots prior to adoption. If you would like to meet MacGruff D to see if he is a good fit for your home, please fill out an Adoption Application online.
