URGENT UPDATE - Donation Request
A tumor found on one of Max's kidney has been diagnosed as CANCER. This happy 7-year old boy needs immediate surgery to save his life, before it progresses to his lymph nodes. Please consider making a donation in his name by clicking the orange "Donate..." button above or sending a check to PO Box 482, Parker, CO 80134.
Update on Renal Carcinoma. Max has been diagnosed with cancer in his left kidney with no sign of lymph node involvement. Discussions with veterinary surgeon and oncologist: both have recommended surgery to remove the kidney because surgery has the potential to be curative. IF the kidney is not removed we can most likely expect Max to become a hospice dog very soon and succumb to the disease within the next 9 months or so. Surgery could give him several more years. Estimated cost for kidney surgery is $1200 - $2000 and the funds would have to be raised. This is a difficult decision to make. This recent diagnosis was a shock! Max appears healthy and enjoys walks, the outdoors, watching the trees for squirrels and the sky for birds. He has no disabilities at this time.
In the short time we have had Max, we have enjoyed his sweetness and ability to adapt to many situations. He loves going on walks, playing in the stream, lounging in the backyard on the grass and just...plain...lounging. He enjoys a good scratching and his tail constantly wags, especially if you're by the fridge, where he hopes for a treat. His "foster sister" is a cocker spaniel and not only does he gets along with her, but he also has had safe and wonderful interactions with other dogs. We think Max would be best in a home with little to no commotion, possibly with calm dogs or as an only dog. His foster family walks him regularly and gets very excited when they reach for the leash; so excited, he just can't stand walking right next to you as he loves being active. He arrived into our rescue with some ear pain and he accepted his ear drops gracefully. RMCR recommends giving all dogs glucosamine and fish oil - he eats them like they are treats. When he lays down, he prefers to be left alone until he can trust you aren't going to hurt him. He patiently waits for his meals and takes treats gently. He loves to cuddle and is a sweet and gentle dog. He feels the need to give new people permission to touch or pet him.
