This cute Cockapoo needs coaxing with food or a treat to enter the crate but is fine once inside. Kody is moderately active and likes to run and play. He is doing well on the leash. He can be vocal especially if other dogs are barking but is not excessive. He is affectionate and wants to please. He is basically obedient but can be protective and a little skittish if he is not sure what a person wants. He enjoys being part of the pack; it is recommended he has a canine companion.
Kody arrived with a history of being aggressive on leash with humans and other dogs, as well as being unpredictable with visitors in the home. He could not be groomed without sedation and was horribly behaved at vet visits. Knowing Kody’s history, small and slow steps have been taken with him in all areas in order to help keep him from repeating his prior learned negative behaviors. His foster was able to begin grooming him without sedation, and his recent vet visit went very well. He is a precious young dog and has done exceptionally well in the last few months.
We are uncertain about his comfort with large dogs or with children of various ages, although he has been with elementary age children once since arrival and did well. It is recommended he continues to meet people and other dogs with a slow approach. Because of his history of unpredictability, it is recommended he does not go to a home with young children under the age of 10; all humans in the home should be able to understand rules and instructions with regard to dog-and-child interactions. This basically has to do with quick and also unpredictable motions of young children which can be seen as a treat to a small dog. He will most likely do best in a home with consistency and clarity with regard to expectations and rules, and where he is not left alone for long periods of time.
If not already, Kodiak will be micro-chipped, neutered (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on his shots prior to adoption. If you would like to meet Kodiak to see if he is a good fit for your home, please fill out an Adoption Application online.
