Meet Charlie – Adopted

on Saturday,May 9, 2009

Charlie is a one-year-old, black-and-white, field-bred English Springer Spaniel who will make someone an exceptional companion (not only a pet). Being a young hunting dog, he needs a LOT of exercise to help him burn off his excessive energy and he LOVES attention from his people. He is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, house-trained, very intelligent, as sweet as they come and he loves to snuggle and sleep in bed right next to his people.

Charlie is friendly with other dogs and on the submissive side, but does seem to be intimidated by very large dogs (i.e. Great Pyrenees). We don’t know how he would do with cats since he has not been exposed to them in his foster home. He is attentive on walks, immediately spotting deer and rabbits. He is not a big barker; however, he does bark to get back in the house or if he sees something “exciting”. He does jump up on people in his excitement, but he does not hit hard. He could definitely trip someone by getting under their feet. He does have some separation anxiety in that he whines and cries when he’s parted from his people. He seems to love kids as young as 6 year old and he knows basic commands.

Charlie is not crate trained; he’s actually very fearful of crates/cages so he’ll need work in that area. His foster mom indicates he is not a fence jumper or digger. She leaves him to roam the house while she’s gone and hasn’t had any issues. He will be a fabulous family dog and he loves just being with his people. Charlie will do best in an active home with other animals and someone to take him for runs or long walks daily.
