Adoption Information

RMCR Adoption Fees

Please understand that our adoption fees are not for the purchase of a dog, but rather to cover the medical costs of all dogs in our care.

Puppies up to two year old dogs: $300

Adult dogs age two years through nine years: $250

Senior dogs age ten years and over: $150

Your adoption fee includes spaying or neutering, all vaccinations, grooming (if needed), and an overall veterinary exam to identify any potential health issues. We will take care of any known health issues before a dog is adopted out!   For puppies that are too young to be spayed or neutered, the new owner is responsible for the surgery and a refundable deposit of $300 (per dog)  in addition to the adoption fee will be required as insurance that this procedure will be completed when the puppy is of acceptable age (typically around 6  or 7 months old).  Once proof of surgery is presented to Rocky Mountain Cocker Rescue, the deposit will be refunded in full.

RMCR receives dogs from a variety of sources including owners who are surrendering their dogs and from shelters where dogs have either been surrendered or picked up as strays. Information about these animals is often minimal at best and we must rely on veterinarians and shelter personnel to provide data such as age, health status and social temperament. We will gladly pass on to you any and all information regarding the dog, but please understand that if your vet disagrees with the information that we were provided, we cannot be held responsible for disseminating false information. We can only pass along the information that we were given when we received the dog and we will never knowingly withhold any information.

Adoption Process

The first step in adopting one of our available Cocker Spaniels is to complete and submit our adoption application. You can click on one of the links at the bottom of this page to complete and submit an application.

When completing the application keep in mind:

  • We ask for the names and numbers of two personal references (unrelated to you) so let your references know in advance that we’ll be calling.
  • We request the name and number of your veterinarian if you have existing pets, so let your vet know in advance that they will hear from us.
  • If applicable, we ask for the name and number of your landlord, so also let your landlord know that we will be calling to verify their approval.

We will contact you when your application is received and we have begun the review process.

Once we have processed your application we will schedule an interview in your home with one of our adoption coordinators. All members of the family will need to be present, including any current pets.

After the interview, if you are approved for adoption we will call to arrange the next steps, including pick up of your new Cocker Spaniel! Please note, we cannot guarantee a specific dog will be available from the time of initial inquiry to when the adoption process is completed, but we will do our best to match the Cocker Spaniel you are interested in with your family as quickly as possible to ensure a long, happy relationship.
